okay, so i've got a pretty mediocre p-bass copy
i want to keep it forever, but when i get another bass i want to mod it up a bit. i'm thinking just the pup's and bridge and stuff, but i wanted to know if in most cases it's a fairly easy swap.
i don't want to go as far as routing new hole and stuff, so yeah. also, are electronics easy to retrofit? i wouldn't mind going active

Only replace won't you don't like or doesn't work. What's wrong with the bridge that you need to spend money to replace it?
Electronics are more subjective because that is where your tone is. What kind of tone are you going for and how much money are you looking to spend?
And if you don't want to go active because of the battery inconvenience, there ARE other options... you can get pretty versatile with a passive system.

was just asking, and this is only after i get another bass (depending on how my band goes), which could be a while, cause i need a car first ...
and what i was getting at was a sort-of project bass, like a template to build from and make my own.

Sorry I misread, I thought you had wanted to upgrade the P-bass.
Well, then personally I'd start with electronics (like I said most of the tone is there) and then whatever hardware feels like it can't hold up, and then aesthetic stuff like pickguard, body color, etc.
Have fun with it. :thumb:

you still misread ... i want to know if most mods are easy, like just swapping one thing for another?

Pup's- easy if you can solder.
Bridge- takes a screwdriver
Pickguard- Screwdriver, real simple.
