View Full Version : All My Drums Went Swimming
Mr Pink
03-19-2008, 09:22 PM
It rained heavy for three days in a row. Last night we got five inches alone. I came home for lunch to fine 13" of water in the bottom floor of my house, which is basically drums and home theatre room. Many drums under water......have been taken apart and are now drying...hopefully all will survive. Carpet shot, walls shot, and being torn out as we speak (type) Surround sound, gone fishing.....47" LCD...toast....stereo....toast, wet toast. Posters from Who, Van Halen, dead. 12 channel Mackie board....you get the idea.
Today sucks. Pray for my drums:wave:

That's a bummer for anybody because they have to deal with the carpet, floors and other appliances but you have to deal with the drums as well.
Will insurance cover any of this?

insurance should hopefully cover it, though you might need to fight tooth and nail. a lawyer should be able to help if you can't. Just make sure you document EVERYTHING you had down there.

Have a $50k rider on musical equipment, and my regular home owners will cover the rest (trust me on that) Acrylic kit, red kit, blue sparkle kit we in the garage so they are safe. First thing I did was call Bill @ Pork Pie and he told me what to do to hopefully save my drums. TGP....your snare survived untouched. : ^ P
It's all just stuff..no one got hurt so I am pretty lucky. Thanks for the happy thoughts.

I'm sure there's a film called "the man who sued god" or something like that. About a bloke who lost his boat in a fishing accident or something and couldn't claim it on his insurance because it was "an act of god" so he sued the Christian church.
anyway that really sucks for you pink. I hope everything works out for you.

No, I'm pretty sure he sued God directly. It wasn't a serious case, it was just to show how bullshit the legal system is.

oh phew that's a relief. So you insurance company covers these acts of god?
I was trying to rent a car and the guy said i wasn't covered for acts of god. I said what do you mean by that and he said "wooooooo". I said can you be a little more specific? He said "woooooerghah". I said, im intrigued because you said god, not gods or spirits or gin or nymphs. But god, a capital god, a monotheistic religion, maybe a judeochristian religion which would imply a beleif system, which would perhaps lead to free will or determinism. So logically anything man does directly, or indirectly, is in fact an act of god so im not covered for anything. He said "I'll get the manager". I said define Act Of God. He said "I dunno, like, a plauge of locusts or something". A plauge of locusts swarm round the vehicle and rip the wing mirrors off and im liable for £50 excess? And he said "No, like rain or something". So i said, Yeah but how much rain? Its drizzling a bit now, is that an act of god? At what point does the rain reach a certain level beyond which it takes on the more apocalyptic mantle of the water based punishment of the lord? And he said "I just work saturdays".
You reminded me of Bill Bailey :)
I'm sorry to hear about your drums Mr Pink.

The musical instrument coverage is in addition to my "normal " coverage.
The flood insurance or water damage due to act of ****head or what ever was also extra, but only like 30.00 a year extra...best 30.00 I ever spent.

Well we are in the wait and see portion of the movie. The drums seem to have survived but won't really know for about another week when I put them back together. I sucked it up last night and went downtown and saw Bruce Springstein. (sp?) Great show. Max Weinberg really is a great power groove pocket drummer. Also, middle aged white people can't dance, and should not do this in public. They look like puppets dancing on strings controlled by the devil.
The guy is on the way over from the restoration company to take moisture readings. Insurance guy was by yesterday and I have to list every single item separately. I had four bricks of Vic 5Bn's that are now warped and have to write it out 48 times. Also about 40 heads got nailed, soft cases, hard cases and all these need very descriptive detailed listings.....cramps!:smash:
Went to take a shower last night, and all the fans downstairs had blown out the pilot on the water heater.........meh:angry:

After you do this, upload your photos by clicking the "browse" button and selecting the file from wherever you have saved it on your computer. Do this for all your photo's.
Afterwards, there are 3 choices I believe, you are going to click on the one labeled [img] file and as soon as you click it it will copy automatically (pretty handy), just paste that into the quick reply and voila. :)

Well, ALL my drums have dried and every single one of them is still in perfect round, no issues with finishes. Looks like all have survived none the worse for wear. Still lots off $ damage, but the drums themselves are gonna be OK.
If anyone ever asks you why spend the money for high end drums this is a good answer. The fact that some were completely under water and survived in 100% condition speaks to quality of the shells, finish applications, and attention to detail
