Hey guys,

This isn't a song I would normally do, but i was doing a favour for a friend so i figured i'd post it.

It actually turned out to be pretty fun to just pull out a solid beat like that and make it groove.

I'll be doing another song tomorrow (right now i need to go to sleep) but here it is....

Nice playing. I felt the bass was a little low in the mix at times though.

The beginning wasn't really grooving very well, but after the first 20 seconds or so you settled in and it was a lot better. There were also a couple spots where your bass drum pattern didn't sound 100% solid. Other than that though, nicely done.
I really like that song for some reason. Does that make me lame :(

Not bad, but the timing is very shaky and the bass drum is too busy IMO.

To me it kinda sounds like you've only played it through a few times and aren't really that confident with it yet. Shaky...not because you're crap but because you've only just started working on it. It natural for most.....

Spend like a week or so with it, record it again, post it up here and I'm pretty sure it'll be grooving like ****.

I quite like the drum sound too. It's pretty neat for a home recording.

not too bad. the timing gets a little off and the bass drum is a little too busy at the start and gets a little shaky in certain parts.

like chipple was saying, if you give it a bit more work, i think it'll be great. it certainly is a good start so far.

yeah thats pretty much it. I just had to get something down for a friend by Saturday.

I'll see if i can keep working on it and repost it.

One thing about the bass drum is that it's not busy enough. Theres a lot of hits i actually skipped over because i felt it was too busy already.

EDIT: Just as a note, my bass drum is the one that actually sounds like a bass drum. Just to clear it up.

Twas good, kept it simple and it worked well with the song.

Just a few sloppiness issues I think, but solid for the most part. Everything that needs mentioning has been mentioned.

thanks dudes, i'll work on what was mentioned.

Pretty much whatever's been mentioned.

I'd say if there was any EQ'ing, then push the bass. If not, you're too timid with the bass drum.

yeah in my first mix the bass drum was really loud so i turned it down and for some reason decided not to listen to it after i changed the level.

stupid me.

Then fair play. Just worth a mention.

Though also worth a mention is that ideally, you should need very little, if any, EQ'ing.

I like the 'simple playing, maximum grooving' approach. The only thing that keeps it from grooving as hard as it could is the inconsistency with time.

The parts that it all comes together really well sounds really excellent. If you get comfortable enough to play with that kind of consistency for the whole track, then you will have an awesome recording!

looking back on it now theres more i could have done but because of what this was needed for, i didn't really want to overpower the song or confuse the people playing it.

Drums need to go down, i can't listen to the song without focusing my attention on the them which is bad.

yeah i figured that. but i just quickly added the track in to post it. I recorded these tracks for a friend who works at a music conservatory. His students were doing this concert and they needed a backing track of drums to help keep time.

good stuff. I actually finished the whole song now that it has drums lol. It made it more interesting. I like how you progressively made the drumming "busier" as the song when on. Or I think that's what you were aiming for.

yeah as the energy grew it just felt right to make it more busy, so thats what i did:)

Thanks a lot for listening bro. Not many people on here actually listen to audio.

Not bad man.

Timing seemed a little out in places for me but I'm not sure whether that was you or the original track (I wouldn't put it past em lol.)

The addition of the drums changed the feel of the song completely. The beat you chose made it sound like a slow ska song - the guitar had that kinda upbeat 8th thing goin on.

Not sure what to make of it tbh but cool nonetheless.

all it is throughout the entire song is

H|-XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx|
S|-----o---------o-|
B|-o--o----o-ooo---|

something like that.

Did you just drum over the real song and just made your drums louder?

I still don't get it.
Either way
You kind of blow dude.
I mean
I don't understand how you can play like Opeth, and shitty music like that, if you can't keep a solid 4/4 beat.
