I need an aux snare and I'm thinking about picking one of these up for cheap. 4x10 maple shell. Anyone own one? How does it sound? Likes/dislikes?

I would love to get a chance to play one of those, as a rule of thumb I don't pay more than $100 for something I've never heard before :) I can pick this Pearl snare up for $80 and get some use out of it before I find exactly what I'm looking for, but I won't buy it if someone on here says it sounds like complete **** haha.

Hi Harrow, I own one of these. I picked it up farely cheap compared to the RRP, which I wouldn't pay full price for. Il take some pics!

Virgil Donati uses the same one, as heard in the beginning of "Thinking Stone" (Quantum). You do not get a big sound out of it. If your looking for a crisp sounding pop aux snare then this is not for you. Great for little accents and for drum n bass for example.

If you've got iTunes, search for planet x then quantum, and listen to that track.

Quite funny really, I thought it might have been you. I posted a thread with a video about some polyrhythms I was doing, and you replied "Wow what is that snare you are using it sounds horrible. Please tell me so I never buy one. Sounds like you are hitting a metal cooking pan" :)

Can you tell me which snare you were refferring to?

I was talking about the main snare not the aux, I don't remember you hitting the aux at all but I'll listen to your clip again. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll grab that song and see if I can pick out the audio of the snare. I am actually in the middle of a drum and bass project which is why I was looking for something like a piccolo snare, but 12x4 was my ideal size not 10x4, anyway I might pick this up cheap and go from there. Thanks again! :)

Eh never mind, it sold for way more than I was willing to pay for it on ebay. I don't know what is up with people, I was going to bid on a yamaha double tom stand which sells brand new for $80 bucks and it was bid up to $66 with $15 shipping...for a used stand. I DON'T GET IT....

Unlucky.

That main snare was a Masters, in real life it sounds great, exceptionally great when we play live.

Craig Blundell uses a small Mapex popcorn snare for his work. Very nice.
