i'm also interested in inlays. i'd like to know how to do parallelogram inlays to replace dot inlays. what tools and materials to use.

i have an idea. will it work. take my maple blank, square it up (its a little cuppped right now), and then saw the thickness in half, cut the inlay space all the way out, one side through the other, on all areas where inlays will be, then glue it back with its overside, and have inlays spaces with matching depths. my blank is about half an inch thick if not a little more, so i got room to work with.
after all that, then radius and fret it and everything.

i forgot to mention that i'd like to do this to existing guitars rather than building from scratch. i've no interest in building guitars, just altering the inlays on existing ones, usually rosewood over maple.
btw thanks to ccr90 for the link but it doesn't work as is. you have to remove the sputnik ref and use the pure site link to get it to load (that's what happened to me anyway). http://www.projectguitar.com <- that should work
here's a specific tut on that very site for inlays:
