Hey all, this is more of a composing question but do any of you know of any sort of chart writing program, preferably free of course, that I can use to write down some of the stuff I wrote?
You see, I'm in a band that's not really a jazz band, it's more of a progressive rock/fusion group but sometimes we write some really jazzy parts, and it would be nice to have a program to write charts for us to print out and use during rehearsal.
anyways, let me know if you guys know of any. Thanks!

I know there's a free notation software for Linux, can't recall the name off the top of my head.

Do you mean music notation? Try Powertab.

Yeah, but Powertab costs money, right? He's looking for free programs.
Most of the free programs for Windows are usually very crippled and don't do you much good. For example, I needed to make PDFs of tabs for a bunch of midis I wrote in Cakewalk, and Cakewalk doesn't have a very good tab writer. I downloaded the demo for Guitar Pro but it crippled the Print Function so when I made the PDF using CutePDF it had "DEMO VERSION" written all across the page.

No, Powertab is free. GuitarPro costs money.

Finale Notepad might also work. It's sort of like a demo for Finale Pro: a shareware version that's free.
I don't recall the exact feature set, but I'm pretty sure you can write up charts and print them out.

Hey dudes, I already have guitar pro for all of my arranging and composing needs. What I need is a program that can write simple charts out with maybe just a melody and chords, like a chart you would find in a real book. Not something like guitar pro or powertab, where you write out specific parts.
I hope this can be my last post for my post count, and thanks.

What? You can use something like Powertab or Finale Notepad to notate a melody and add chord symbols. What is it you need?
