Okay. I want to spend abou $220 AU on something that I can record single tracks with and put into a laptop. Anything exist like that? I was thinking Zoom H4 but it's a bit out of my price range...

I bought a pair of AKG K66s and am saving for an MBox 2 instead of going the H4.

I was going to say the Zoom H2, but that works too.

Theirs a bunch of other options you could go for that would be less expensive then the h2. The Olympus recorders have a really good reptutation and are gonna save you some $
Check this site, they've got a good price on some handheld recorders. They probably ship to Au

Get a 1/4 phono to 1/8 phono adapter. It'll cost about $2.00.
All you need to do is plug your guitar/amp into your computer and, volia! Instant recording!
You'll then need some software. Just download Audacity, or obtain Adobe Audition or a similar program.
Alternatively, you can get the phono jack, with an SM57 and a Cannon - Phono lead, and that'll set you back about $120 bucks or so. A stand for the mic costs about $40-$80, but you can get away with leaning the mic against the amp.
Anyone who disagrees with my cheap arse methods should check out my band at www.myspace.com/kaamora (http://www.myspace.com/kaamora).
All that **** was recorded using nothing more than a Playstation Microphone and a computer.
You don't need to spend a f*ckload of money to get a quality recording.

For some reason, and it might just be my instincts, I'm questioning your ability to get those drum sounds with a single Playstation microphone.
