Hey all I have a bit of extra cash, and since my parents have a recording studio with all the good stuff, i was thinking about having a smaller one at my house. Does anyone have any experience with this product and have any ideas/suggestions on it?

The MXL 990 has mixed reviews. Some people think they're junk, others really like them.

I happen to really like them (I have 4). I think they're a good-sounding warm mic.

As for the 991 and Audio Buddy, I have no experience with either. I know both also have mixed reviews.

Thanks for the reply.

I too have seen the mixed reviews...the one's that say they're bad don't really back it up that well, and they're experience could just be user error, or possibly faulty equipment. The one's that say they're good however, definatly back it up with substantial evidence. So...I guess the jury is still out>?

In terms of the MXL 990, the verdict is in for me. I like them. You will probably find a number of users here, however, that disagree with me.

My bottom line: if it sounds good, it is good.

Regarding the Audio Buddy, it's got a pretty good reputation. The MXL 991 is a bit shakier, but I would probably spring for the deal, since the cost of the Audio Buddy and 990 alone are roughly that much, it's not unlike getting a bonus mic.
