I think you can set it as your main soundcard. Not sure, but someone told me that once. Try your Control Panel settings.

Okay, I need you to keep this in mind when reading this post: THIS IS BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE DEBUGGING PT|HD 7.2 ON OSX.

What we found was that Pro Tools was something of a resource hoarder. The Digi hardware would work just fine with any software, including iTunes when properly configured after a reboot, but for some reason would stop operating correctly after a period of time with the computer on. When we started investigating, we found that once Pro Tools had control of the Digi hardware, it often wouldn't allow the drivers to be accessed by any other software. The two things that would correct this resource consumption were hardware reboots of the computer, and hardware reboots of the Digi hardware.

Additionally, the drivers controlling the Digi hardware could be set to be the default drivers on the computers (I imagine Windows has no problem doing this as well). However, there were bizarre driver conflicts whenever you tried to have two pieces of software operate with those drivers simultaneously.

The moral of the story for those studios was this: Clean out the hardware resources after using the Pro Tools software, and don't try to access the drivers using two programs simultaneously.

On Windows, this will likely mean you need to specify the Digi hardware as your default sound card for playback, and also to disable sound in most other software (Windows sounds, AIM, etc.).

Alternatively, you may try to force the hardware to comply using something like ASIO4ALL, and setting that up to be the default driver.

I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ANY OF THIS WILL WORK. I haven't had to go through this process myself on Windows, because I don't use Digi hardware.
