that vent hole cut looks pretty damn rough for a $750 snare drum. in addition to other concerning issues that are noticeable

That photo was taken before the vent grommet was installed.

The fingerprints have been removed from the hoop as well.

What else do you feel is an issue?

so because it's covered up and people can't see, that means it's ok to have crummy drill work?

It's not crummy drill work at all. I had a very well known drummer play it and like it, the only reason he didn't want to buy it was because it sounded too much like a solid shell Craviatto snare drum he owned.

If you don't want to buy it, don't buy it. Dont' try to pick it apart just to try and look cool and appear like you know what you're talking about.

Go look up stave shell snares from any other company and see what they charge. Spaun 14" stave shells start out at $825. Then you have to add $125 for diecast hoops and $5 for each tube lug, you're already at $1000.

"from any other company" you say? that oak stave shell can be purchased for $125 in the US, the finished snare for less then $700

im just wondering why the hole is so rough. if you are just learning how to build drums and woodwork, thats great but maybe think of selling the drums for a more appropriate price for the craftsmanship

There's nothing wrong with the vent hole in the drum. It was drilled with a Unibit. It may just be the picture but the quality of this drum is extremely high.

Yes, you can get an Oak stave shell for $125, but you forget about the diecast hoops for $45 each, the Trick Strainer that goes for $70, the tube lugs that cost $8 each, and then there's the labor for the finish and drilling and bearing edges...it adds up.

I could see if I had posted a ton of pictures and all of them showed a bad vent hole but that's not the case, you just feel like trashing my drum. I've been building for many years and have never had one complaint.

Yea, I'm not gonna Lie, Medicine Man does make very good quality drums, I've heard of them outside MX, I do belive you ahd an article published out your company too didn't you??? If I had the money to spend I wouldn't be worried about being over-priced when buying this.

That is a very nice looking piece of work, I would definitely consider buying something like this in the future if I had a chance to play it. I just moved out of Scottsdale to the east coast but I have a lot of friends in PHX so I may find myself back out there this summer. Sorry if I missed this information but is the bearing edge 45 degrees?

Don't worry about armchair drum experts that try to belittle you on this forum, looks like your work is top notch, and that vent looks fine to me.
