Yes, I know. But I'm going to do it anyways.

I broke the truss rod on my old bass (in b4 idiot) but had warranty and they are reimbursing 100% of what I paid. It was a low-end Spector -- I think I paid around $250-300. So, I have that, and I may borrow $200-300 more from my parents to get a new bass. And I have around $100 cash.

I'm going bass shopping this weekend and want basses around that price range ($250-700) to look out for.
-I don't mind going used.
-Preferably on the lower end of that price spectrum... I'd have to sell my iPod touch (which I love, but I can always go back to my iPod mini...) and my Nintendo DS (which I don't have much of a problem parting with) to make up for that money. I am willing to pay a lot for a bass I really like, though.
-It has to be a 4 string.
-I like fat tone.
-I play a variety of styles, from rap to funk to rock.
-I want it to last awhile.
-Preferably 24 frets, but I'm flexible... depending on the bass.

If it matters, this will be my 3rd bass. I've been playing bass for three years, and I've been taking lessons for almost half a year.

Suggestions begin... NOW!

Was this before or after everyone told you not to touch the truss rod if you don't know what you're doing?

Before.

ah

did you break the nut, or the actual rod?

because the nut is replaceable

The shop said 'there is no more turn left in the neck.'

So I assumed the truss rod was broken.

It wasn't me they told -- my mom was picking it up for me.

Nonetheless, I get more value of a bass than I would have if I would have sold it. And I'm needing a new bass anyway.

Do you have any ideas for a new bass? I'd prefer something in the cheaper part of the price spectrum that I mentioned -- maybe $400-$450.

That's normal. Truss rods have limits on how far they can go in either direction. It doesn't mean it's broken at all

this is true. but you said your mom was picking it up.. does this mean you have the bass in your possession right now?

I do. But since the truss rod can't turn anymore, doesn't that mean it's stuck with the inward bow?

Either way, I get to keep the bass and I'm reimbursed. It would be nice to have 2 playable basses. :)

I would take it to a luthier myself

also it's supposed to have a little bit of curve, it might be fine

If you consider over 1 inch between the 12th fret and the strings a bit of curve, it's perfect. :smoke:

But anyway, I got a new bass. I talked to my bass teacher and he recommended me a Mexican Fender J. So I went to GC and talked him into selling it to me for $400.

What is your saddle height like

Low as they can get.

It's actually around 1/2 inch between the 12th fret and strings. I went and measured (well, estimated using the first joint of thumb = 1 inch rule)
