Hey ever one, i started teaching my self bass a couple days ago on a bass guitar i borrowed from a friend.
I've decided to get a bass (once i get the money).
I was just wondering, what would be a good bass to get for a starter. But i don't want some beginner, gana give out on me in a year, kinda thing either.
Some thing good quality and easy to play.
If any of that makes sense.
Just let me know, thanks.

Ibanez GSR200 was what I started on, played it happily for 4 years, moved on to a better Ibanez. I always recommend it for starters.

Might as well mention the RBX170 as well.

As a matter of fact, there's a comparison of the two basses somewhere on this site.

I'm on the same boat as you man. I got a cheap beginners Ibanez. I got the Ibanez BTB200. It's been serving me well. I've been learning bass for the past month. Can play a few easy songs, mostly ballads, but I can pull em off. Plus I'm taking lessons too. Hopefully in 3 years or so I can be good enough to do uptempo and harder rock. But since most retailers dont sell the BTB200 for some reason anymore, I'd say go with the higher mid-end Ibanez BTB450. It's a little more costly but definitely a more sturdy and solid bass than the BTB200.

if you happy with it, thats a good reason to stick with it. no use is learning on a different bass of beginner quality. This is mainly because at that level, most instruments are practically the same.

123, my first bass was the Yamaha RBX170. I'd recommend it to any beginner bassist. And because it has dual pick-ups (jazz and precision), you can start to experiment with tones and see what sort of sounds you like and want to play with. I've had it for 5 and a 1/2 years.

The pick-ups have started to rust mind you but it's still capable of giving me a good sound with the right amp settings.

Recommended. :smash:

Worth noting the GSR200 also features P/J pick-ups.
