I'm thinking about getting one of these.

Does anyone have an opinion on them?
Anyone know of a site similar to cymbalsonly.com that might have a sound clip of one?

I think 14" crashes suck.

Yeah, I had a 14" Istanbul crash. Great cymbal, but it was too mellow to make a good splash and too mellow to make a good crash :p

I agree....I don't think I've ever heard a 14" crash that I've liked. Too big to be a splash, too small to be a crash.

yeah im pretty much the same as everyone else...i don't really like anything below 17...and even that is a stretch.

My common ranges for workhorse cymbals will be:

Splashes: 6" - 11"
Hi-Hats: 10" - 14"
Crashes: 16" - 19"
Rides: 19" - 22"
Chinas: 16" - 20"

I myself love my 14" HHX Studio Crash, however I not sure how the Zildjian will compare, I think your best bet may be on their site, it won't be exact but you'll get a general idea

i ahve the k custom fast crash. It sounds like the perfect crash recorded but live its just too small.

i currently use it as a high hat top, it gets lots of compliments.

I have the 14" A Custom Fast Crash, it is a very nice little crash, it works when I need it, like at the end of a fill that I don't intend to be too dramatic. I really recommend it. I think they are not very expensive for what you get.

I've got a 14" crash and would rather have something bigger. It sounds ok but because its so small I am afraid of breaking it.

For once everyone seems to agree...

14" crashes have a rather limited purpose. I find the only situation they work okay in is a mid-fill explosion, as the fast decay means they don't drown out the fills climax.

Best 14" crash a ever heard was an A custom 15" crash :-D

I have an A 15" Thin Crash.
Hate it,selling it.

Although I do prefer larger sizes, I was always a big fan of my 14" AAX Studio - sounded great on tape, and was nice and quick for playing the fast stuff when you didn't want a cymbal ringing out.

As far as breaking it - it outlasted 2 x 17" and 1 x 18" A Customs.

I have one. A Custom 14" Fast Crash. Great cymbal. Fast attack, really nice quick decay. It's a fairly bright cymbal, great for accents in pop/rock.

I love 14 inch crashes...I have 7 or 8 of them. For me they are the perfect sound....between a full crash and a splash. A fast crash live will sound like a splash when played along with full size crashes, only at a competive volume. A loud splash.
I have a 14 Paiste 2002, Paiste Fast sig, Zildjian K Dark fast, K Custom, A custom, UFIP Classic, UFIP Rough Series, ....?????
My 14" Zildjian K fast in one of my favorite one.

Well as far as people saying they suck , ....I would counter with almost any cymbal has a musical context,....it's just a matter of what music you're playing, what sounds you want, and how many things you want to set up and hit.

I will say I like big splashes....12".....but 14" is just a wrong size for me.

I use a 14". I play in a reggae/rock kind of band, the 14" works quite well for my sound. I only use 2 crashes. A 14" and an 18". Each serves it's purpose. The A Custom 14" Fast Crash is very bright and explosive. I love it.
