Ok, so my drum teachers offering to sell me a used 20" Paiste Sig Full Ride. at the moment he's lent it to me so i can decide on whether i like it.
heres how it goes though:
1) i LOVE the sound of this cymbal. i literally hit it before i go to sleep just to listen to it ring... the bell sound is awesome too...
however, im worried its too washy for the music i play. that is, punk, psychobilly, ska, ect ect...
what do you think... will it cut it? im taking it to band practise next tuesday.
2) he's asked me to name a price, its in really good nick, but well played, with obvious stick wear on the logos ect. )pics on request)
what so i offer him?? they retail at £239 new :)
thanks mx :)

this is the thing. im not sure... plus, theres no point in buying an awesome cymbal no-one can hear...
my hi hats are paiste pst3s getting replaced when i have lots of cash (first uni loan payment :))

beleive me, it will cut. if your getting drowned out, then the amps are too loud, or your mic levels are too low.
its all about balance

i live in a town of small local bar venues, where micing is rare...
i need something as loud as possible...

liek i said then. all about balance. just cause they have amps that can drown out a plane...doesnt mean it needs to be that loud :P

i wouldn't offer him more than £100.
it's a great cymbal but since it isn't new you deserve a nice discount.

I know what you are trying to say, with that type of music a very well crafted cymbal is not worth it if you are playing lo-fi music that is designed to be a sort of "wall of sound", if that is what you're playing then there is no point. All you need is a good cut to come through but people are not going to hear the nuance of a cymbal like that in punk music.

I think you should buy it, because it is almost certain that your tastes will change as time goes on. If you like it now then it doesn't matter weather it fits the music you currently listen to and play because it is almost certain that later on, you will appreciate this cymbal.

A nice cymbal like that, that is multi-application, never sounds out of place.

I would pass. You don't wear a tux to a mosh pit.

I think a question that needs to be asked is what are you using now?
I'm not as confident as other posters are that it will balance with the volume of your drums or other band members =-/

You are a thinking man's drummer. You look at things from all angles. I salute you:thumb:

I don't listen to much punk but from what I've seen the drummers crash their rides a fair bit . So I guess if its to washy you could use it as a crash and hit the bell for riding.
However, you prolly don't want to get it just coz its cheap, I'd rather pay a bit more and get the perfect ride.

I'm of the opinion something like an Avedis ride, although cheaper, is much better suited for punk =-/
Finding a second hand Avedis Rock ride or Ping ride or Medium ride should be easy... they are really common...
