View Full Version : Getting The Led Out

I'm tired of hearing just about metalcore and stuff like that in this forum

Now Led Zepplin,
Thats a band

I used to think they were just like the rolling stones or acdc, where they were just cool to listen to because they are mega-popular.

But I have to say I think they could very well be the greatest band of all time
any comments?

The fact that you can't even spell their name properly leads me to believe I should make fun of you.

I have just made fun of you.

EDIT: Led Zeppelin is average.

I dunno, I get so caught up trying to find new bands to listen to that I sometimes forget about the old ones that you can't go wrong with. And Zeppelin is one of those bands.

np: Dazed and Confused

sweet **** haven't heard this in forever

They have some great songs, but they're grossly outweighed by an innumerable amount of mediocre and even downright awful ones.

They have some great songs. But they have way more average ones.

Yeah that's true, but they've got like 8 albums out and there's a few awesome songs on each one (which I've seen few bands with 4 albums pull off...)

e: I like your ninja edit that existed solely to make you sound like a douche :p

Not sure, they go back and forth about it.

Last I heard it was tentatively schedule for this November.

I though Jimmy Page said "he's ready" but that was it. I heard nothing about "planning" a tour.

I wouldn't be so surprised. One of my old bandmates who worked at a skating rink saw this chick who wore a Zep shirt, and he was like "cool band." She was all "huh?" Apparently she bought the shirt because it was cool, and she didn't realize that it was actually a band.

Yet another band that seems great at first, becomes 'OK' and as time goes on is listened to once or twice a year due to the realisation that there is a massive amount of bands that could make better music taking a piss.

OK that last part is a bit of an exaggeration but you know what I'm saying.

No. False.

Zeppelin are okay. I used to not really care about them one way or another, then I started to like them for a while, and now I once again don't really care about them one way or another. Dazed and Confused is a really sick tune though.

I was actually the opposite. Kinda.

My first impression of them was mediocre. I went to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in middle school and noted that the top of their list was Stairway to Heaven for greatest rock song. I download it my freshman year to lukewarm reviews. I was completley underwhelmed. Granted its a good song, I was just expecting something a hell of a lot better.

So for the most part I listened to Zeppelin and thought "meh" through most of high school. Some decent tunes but they didn't just compare to many other bands. I also thought they were vastly overrated by all the fanboys that seemed to exist in the 2003-2006 timeframe. I thought LZ 4 was a mediocre album, and LZ 2 was the superior (granted those were the only two albums I heard).

About 6 months ago I catch this kickass Zeppelin song I had never heard before on the radio. Further investigation revealed it to be No Quarter. I was blown away by its awesomeness. Such a sweet song. I later fall in love with The Ocean and Good Times Bad Times. Now I think they're a pretty cool band.

Doubt this will last long, though.

Zeppelin is one of those bands that had their time and you can't expect everyone to continue loving them. Same with the Beatles. Their time is well past and that's it.

I used to love them but not so much anymore. There's so much new music out there too enjoy I don't get why you would get stuck on a band who broke up before most of you were born. Zeppelin made their mark and will always be one of the most successful rock bands in music history, as dictated by the circumstance of the industry as opposed to public opinions on a forum board.

Every live recording of theirs I've ever seen has really sucked.

That generally turns me off to a band.

That's true. They were awful live.

I have a bootleg of a show in Cleveland in 78 that might change your mind though. Actually I thought How the West was Won at least made the band look awesome and Page look like a hack. Page was always the problem.

I did see Page with the Black Crowes in the 90s and he reaffirmed that. It's almost as if someone else played in the studio. Though early BBC recordings show that he was really good.

Seafroggys
02-06-2008, 01:44 PM
Page really lost it over time. 1969 was like the only year he was good. However, he did have an awesome stage presence.

And I still think The Beatles are the greatest :p

ZapatoDiablo
02-06-2008, 01:55 PM
I believe Page was a session musician before LZ. I guess he couldn't translate those skill into live performances.

He was a great guitarist, he was just so ****ing high and drunk all the time he couldn't play.
However he did begin to literally lose it after Physical Graffiti.

I think the most talented of all of Zeppelin was John Paul Jones. Sick dude.

I still find it really odd that the only Zeppelin album that's consistently good throughout is Physical Graffiti - i.e. the one you'd assume would be the worst for that. But yeah, the comment Coke made about having as many average/terrible songs as great ones is basically spot on. Narrow their discography down to about 200-250 minutes and it's astounding, but then you've got crap like "The Crunge" and "Four Sticks" left over.

Physical Graffiti > III > II > I > Presence > BBC Sessions > Houses of the Holy > IV > Coda for me from what I've heard.

McP3000
02-07-2008, 08:58 AM
Physical Graffiti > III > II > I > Presence > BBC Sessions > Houses of the Holy > IV > Coda for me from what I've heard.
:(

I > IV > II > Physical Graffiti > III > Houses of the Holy > Presence > In Through the Out Door

Iai

I really don't like IV. Take off "Stairway" and "Black Dog" and it's a really, really bad album. Houses of the Holy only just beats it because it has 3 awesome songs instead of 2, but the worst of Houses is worse than the worst of IV, if that makes sense. I know the vast majority of people don't agree with me on that, but right from the day I heard those two I've never liked them all that much.

From what I've heard of In Through The Out Door I guess I'd probably put it between BBC Sessions and Houses.

add stairway and black dog and its even worse

Seafroggys

Black Dog is indeed awesome. Stairway isn't too bad, but the rest of the album is meh.
