Hello my bass forum friends.

I now have a Facebook page for my solo music. I'm still getting it off the ground, so please feel free to add yourselves/share the link with anyone who you think might be interested.

Thanks a lot guys, your support means a lot to me.

I'll try to get a new song up on both pages in the next week or so.

How do you make a facebook music page? I don't understand that site at all.

It is definitely confusing. I think from your home page (where it shows you all the **** that your friends are doing), you click Page Manager in the list of applications on the left hand side, and follow the links from there. Not certain on that though.

EADGC taps very well. I'm impressed.

And hooray for Schecter Studio players!

Thanks to anyone who's added me so far

and thank you Sablate

Sade, if you want to make a page just ask me on msn and I can talk you through it. It is a little confusing at first (definitely moreso than myspace) but you can figure it out in time.

I am trying to do it too, and have no sweet clue.

Edit: N/m. Got it.

It took me a while to figure it out. It's a new feature, so it's really not user friendly yet. I can post some directions if you guys want

Yeah, please do. So often people turn me down being my myspace friend cause they use facebook instead, I wanna keep up with the times.

Unfortunately I have NO IDEA how to use facebook. It is the most confusing, stupidly unorganized piece of crap ever. But its also popular, so...

So this is a highly summarized guide..

- you need to get the application "Page Manager". Sorry, I forget where I got it. If you go on my page there should be a link to install it somewhere.

- once you have it in your list of apps. on the left, click it. You should see a page with 3 headings:

"Overview" (helps you keep track of your traffic and advertising)
"Ad Campaigns" (to create paid advertisements)
"Pages" (where you create and edit your site)

- go into "Pages" and fill out your information as necessary (profile, bio, pictures, music, discography, etc)

- to prevent identity theft/fake accounts you have to validate your account. Just scan your drivers license/student card etc and submit it in their upload form and it will take a few days to clear.

- then create and publish your page (making it viewable to the public)

It's not confusing, just different. I thought myspace was pretty complicated until I got the hang of it.

Try to keep your applications low though, to make things less confusing. Most people find them incredibly annoying, anyway (myself included)

Alternatively, you can just go here:

http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=60

And click "How can I create a page?"

And then click in the link underneath.

I really hope they start dividing the commercial pages into categories. Like on myspace, you can create a specialized page just for music, photography, comedy etc. It makes things much less confusing.

FINALLY facebook releases a decent application.

I have a few apps. Only the ones that are useful to me as a musician though.

I have page manager and video. I used to have Mysource (which puts your myspace player on your profile) but now that I have a page I don't really need it anymore.

Hmm... I should get one of my bandmates to make one of these things.

Once you get the hang of things it is so much better than Myspace. A lot cleaner, for one thing, and just a nicer interface.

One thing I don't like though is that you can't customize the colours on your profile. Which can be a good or bad thing.

I like it this was. Keeps things from being hard on the eyes. Maybe the colour scheme of FB is a bit sterile, but better than blinding.

Thing is it's not always blinding

the issue isn't the layouts themselves, it's the fact that so few people know how to use them tastefully.

Man, wtf.

I have show some sort of ID proving its me, and then wait up to 2 business days for verification so I can upload my music?

What kind of identification theft are they trying to run here?

EADGC

They're just trying to cut down on fake pages, the kind myspace is overrun with

Got mine all set up and verified and crap. I like that you can fill out a discography and whatnot. I hate that you can't arrange the order of the songs.

EADGC
02-04-2008, 04:02 PM
yeah, I find that pretty annoying too.

BenJammin
02-04-2008, 04:08 PM
Especially since the order you upload them on the edit screen is the reverse order they show up on your profile. So my newest song is actually the one at the bottom.

EADGC
02-04-2008, 04:11 PM
yeah.. I'm sure they'll fix it soon enough. Myspace and Facebook have this thing where they keep adapting their features to be more like the other. I don't see why they don't just merge.

I don't see it actually happening. Myspace's attempts at self-preservation aren't proving very successful. It will die out completely eventually.
