How are they? I'm trying to figure out what software/interface that I want to use for my personal rig. I've never used a 003, but in my experience with the 002, they where pretty crappy. I also don't know anyone who has one, which could be a bad sign as well.

I'd go for a MOTU box before the 003. Very much 002-ish. Buggy, harsh.

Excellent for Price

Yeah, that looks like a pretty cool deal. Being able to apply phantom power individually is pretty sweet.

Really the only reason that I'm really even thinking about the 003 is that I can get a pretty good deal on it through Digidesign. I'm not even 100% that I would be using Pro Tools either.

If you're not using ProTools, Digidesign hardware seems like a pretty poor value. Even if you are using ProTools, it still seems kind of like a poor value.

Well I know that I would still want Pro Tools, like for just in case of some weird occasion or something.

But I'm going to start getting into hip-hop stuff, and I think that Logic 8 would be awesome for that, and I've also been interested in checking out Nuendo, so I don't know.

Logic For sure. Just Hope you can afford the Mac.

Of, just use Nuendo it's a Pro-Tools-meets-Logic DAW. Excellent MIDI implementation (Logic) and seamless Audio Integration onto the MIDI parts with full editing, time warping, pitch shifting, etc. that Pro-Tools has, but more appealing to the ears. Plus, Nuendo supports VST, whereas you need VST wrappers for Pro-Tools and Logic.

Logic is a great choice. I love Logic 7, but haven't yet tried Logic 8. I'm unsure if 8 has all the same features as 7, just judging by the $700 price drop, it seems more like it would be a Logic Express kind of deal. However, the comping tool in Logic 8 looks sick.

No no no, I've played around with Logic 7 and wasn't a huge fan, but 8 is a lot more user friendly and streamlined

I love it

Yeah, Logic 7 isn't exactly the most user friendly piece of software, but it's capabilities are near endless. I have a book 4" thick on everything you can do with Logic 7. I'm thinking about getting Logic 8 and setting up a little MIDI studio of my own. Is the MIDI on Logic 8 just as good as the MIDI on Logic 7?

No difference. It just has more Audio capabilities.

Nice, then my only question is... why the $700 price drop.

Yeah I don't know either, I don't believe you need any kind of iLok authorization to run it, and 8 is the final version of Logic.

Also a lot changed between Logic 7 and Logic 8. As far as content, yeah they are both have most of the same features, but the entire interface has been changed and is way more efficient and easier to use.
