So, I was bumming around and suddenly realized that Martin Powell, who I knew as the violinist/keyboardist of early My Dying Bride, was also the only talented member of Cradle of Filth. Well, I should emphasize "was," since he left that band as well, but it's interesting b/c he's responsible for all of the orchestrations on Midian, Damnation & a Day, etc. I've never been a big COF fan...mostly because of their obnoxious singer, but I did remember that their orchestrations were usually pretty good...this must be why! Kind of a waste if you ask me, but *shrug*
He should do a solo record.

I would be interested to hear a solo record by him. Cradle of FIlth are pretty worthless though tbh

I did notice that the string parts they put out after he left were more often than not lackluster...
CoF have the potential to be a really good band if they could find somebody who's whole goal in life is not to destroy his vocal chords.

It takes more effort and compositional ability to write cheesy generic symphonics than to write cheese generic C riffs.
I always liked Powell's work. I kinda wish My Dying Bride would tour over here, even if they don't have him anymore...

Yeah. They're the only band like that who actually seem to be decent live.

Don't act like CoF isn't the only black metal band worth listening to. I mean c'mon.
