Discuss the whore that is transposition. :p I am mad at her at the moment because I'd spent some time working with "The Cry of Mankind," by MDB, based off of of a guitar pro tab. Everything SOUNDED ok, but then I happened to watch a video of the band performing it, and realized that the tab had transposed the song up a minor 3rd (it's in C# minor with dropped tuning, and the tab was in Emin/standard). The freaky thing was that everything was otherwise perfectly transcribed...it was just all a minor third too high! How crazy is it that?

I've heard of artists transposing a song before (e.g. classic rock bands with vocalists who did too many drugs and lost their range), and this experience made me wonder whether anybody even notices. Those with perfect pitch must...but the average listener? *shrug*

Something like a half step no. I notice 3rds. Sometimes it loses intensity.

transposition on the guitar is like moving the same form to a different spot.

accompanists will transpose for say a vocalist who needs to sing in a particular key. maybe a trumpet is reading a piece of music written in concert, so he or she will transpose it into B flat.

what is your question, though?

*shrug* What your experiences/thoughts are regarding transposing, I suppose. It was more of a discussion orientated thread than a Question - Response.

IMO, the way that music is taught (with an emphasis on intervals and harmonies) reinforces the mind's ability to overlook transpositions. Agree/disagree?
