SF, maybe not so much on the phaser and nasty kick reverb.

I thought that Senseless Apprentice's was one of the weaker ones actually. I didn't enjoy the fast fills and thought that they detracted from the rest of the playing.

In the end I decided that Jay's entry was really dark and mysterious and i liked that.

Everybody's entry had some redeeming quality though.

ATRU - Although you had nice ideas and phrases and I liked some of the paradiddle grooving, it was overall a bit too busy for me. Some really nice playing, but if you articulated some of your best ideas a little better and mixed it up a bit, maybe a slower tempo or something, I think it would come across as tighter!

Fishbulb - Started off with a well-played, although slightly generic groove. And on... And on... And on... Had nice fill ideas, but some variation would've helped a lot, as opposed to the whole solo being in time/tempo. Did have some nicely executed single-strokes, but some of the bass work seemed a little sloppy.

ETP2 - Now this sounds a bit more like a drum solo to me, as opposed to feeling like there's a backing track missing. Nice grooving, and really well-placed, dynamic fills. I liked the speeding up, and that your fills didn't suffer with the exception of some of the bass work. I didn't like some of the bass work in the second main groove, but the last groove was nice and brought the solo to a close. My favourite so far.

Senseless Apprentice - This is what I expected from the solo comp. Really simple ostinato, nice phrasing and ideas over it. Definately the best technical proficiency shown so far. Nice blurry lines between the groove and chops. It left me hanging a bit at the end, it was quite abrupt. Undecided about this one, I'll take another listen at the end...

Panda Drummer - Started quite strongly, although I think the single-stroke rolls went on a bit long. Didn't feel to me like a solo so much as a couple of rhythms repeated lots of time. The groove felt a bit rushed, although a couple of the fills were nice. Could have done with a groove in a different time feel.

Drummguy731 - I felt the groove was a bit repetitive, but you broke it up with the cymbal sections. Like the first couple though, it didn't really feel like a drum solo - I'm an advocate of lots of variation.

Seafroggys - Really great use of dynamics in the roll section at the beginning, and I liked whatever sound effects you had on. Also liked the slowing down on the hi-hat. Came into the groove at about the right time. Didn't like the constant bassing underneath it, though. Second groove felt a bit strange - not sure what it was but some of the notes seemed out of place and a little out of time. The bass work on the last section seemed a bit out too. Good ideas and I liked your playing.

Okay, all things considered -

1. ETP2 - I felt you had the best solo.
2. Senseless Apprentice - Best playing, but didn't translate AS well into a solo as ETP2's for me.
3. Seafroggys - Great playing but like S.A.'s, the actual solo didn't feel too good for me.

Congrats to all, it was a tough category.

SA won my vote. Good, even playing, nice sound.

Froggies, MAN EFFECTS ON DRUMS ARE ARSE. IN GENERAL. You entry would have been more effective dry.

:p the point of the solo was just for the effects. I don't really think I could make a "solo" that this community would enjoy at least.

I'm at school right now, I'll listen and vote when I come home.

Roots- I also think a slower tempo would do more justice. I love the ideas you've got going. Very groovy.

After hearing SeaFroggy's with headphones, I decided I enjoy the production work. It was a trip.

Vote: Roots.
