My problem is this. When I play music alone, I do fairly well. I don't want to be a solo artist, but every time I play music with others in any sort of jam or band practice, I get really bored with it or disheartened by the results. I want to be in a band for its for the collective sound and influence, but I dont know what's wrong. Maybe its the way we work. We tend to be a bit unprepared I guess. My band is http://www.myspace.com/7thplace if you want to listen, but what I want to know is if anyone has any good advice on the matter. Keep in mind, I'd much rather play with others than be solo.

No, no. I like my songs. It's just playing them with others is the problem. I dont know.
Be a solo artist if you don't like others.

its hard to find people who like your songs, it sounds like they arent really digging what youre doing
im in the same boat, ive yet to meet anyone with a similar music taste
youve just got to accept the fact that your bandmates may not give you exactly what you want

This. If you write the songs, the other members have no say in what they're playing. If the songs are collectively written it's a different story.

Write collectively and have the rhythm section improvise their parts, while still staying in the correct meters and appropriate keys. This would be interesting. Also, have the guitar play as minimalist as possible, with the singer filling in the empty spaces with scat singing.
I think I may talk to my bandmate about doing something like this, it's looks like an interesting idea.

Write music on your own and have your part prepared before practice. That way your part is out of the way, and you can focus on helping band mates think of parts and fills and piece it together as a team. Just don't be one of those people who try to take oevr the music completely.
