Greetings.

I am trying to make the most of my setup, and looking to see what some of you might recommend.

I am running a CAD M-179 and a M-Audio Pulsar, into a M-Audio Firewire 410.

Using this setup, I need some good positioning/settings for the following percussion instruments:

Congas
Djembe
Udu
Cajon

The djembe and congas I always have issues with pops on.

The cajon I can't find a decent position for tone.

And the udus...well this is definitely a challenge to say the least.

The rooms I record in are all carpeted. I am thinking it'd be wise to use a plywood board when recording these instruments.

Any advice appreciated. :thumb:

What microphones are you using?

You should try giving it some room noise.

Djembe: Put one Mic about 8 inches above head, about 2 inches in front of it, pointing at the head. Place the second underneath the chair you're sitting on (hopefully a 4 legged chair), facing the sound hole of the drum. Remember to swap the Phase on the mic on the bottom.

Congas, Udu: One room mic, pointed at instrument. Try placing at about 4-5 feet away.

Cajon: Try a room mic (as above) and a mic about 1 foot from sound hole, pointing at side below sound hole.
