I you want a phase-incoherent sound, go for it.

Never use ONLY contacts for recording. These are good for odd percussion instruments, roto-toms, etc. I

Ew, phase incoherency, evil. Trust me, you don't want a phase incoherent sound. Good times spent getting things in phase though. I've been known to bust out the trusty oscilloscope sometimes (room mic'ing guitar amps is a good example).
