Add Perverted by Language and a few Peel sessions and thats solid.

what are The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall and This Nation's Saving Grace like? i like mid-80's and those are from 84 and 85. and starting with those two they stuck with Beggar's Banquet for a while, before that it looks like they were all over the place. but i'll geeeettttt ummmm Hex Enduction Hour first.. it sounds good based on the review

Definitely get Hex first.
Those two albums you mentioned are going to be more accessible and have some smooth sounding synths in them and thats about the only difference.
Some people prefer the raw, dissonant and repetitive sound of Hex and the others than the sugary Brix era.

Perverted by Language is amazing. "Garden" is an incredible track. I gotta hear these Peel Sessions.
I have not really heard anything by The Fall I don't like, but my top 5:
1. Hex Enduction Hour
2. This Nation's saving Grace
3. Dragnet
4. Grotesque
5. Live at the Witch Trials
Bukowski

Oh yeah, they're playing live here soon as well. I'm definitely not missing that, incase Mark dies soon or something.

Good reasoning.
I'm kinda sad because I realize theres a very strong possibility they'll never tour the US again :(
Eat yerself fittah
That was John Peel's self proclaimed favorite song of all time. He fainted when he first heard it.

I bet it'll be my favorite if anything could possibly unseat the greatness of Dragnet
