So i'm listening to the El Topo soundtrack, which has grown to be a strong musical favourite in my collection and decided to make a thread about this director I am quite fond of.
So far i've watched El Topo multiple times and seen The Holy Mountain once, both of which i've found absolutely fascinating for their mexican take on surrealism. The soundtracks are nothing short of majestic, I love a lot of glass percussion, classical arrangements and trumpets so it ticks all my boxes. :)
Talk Jodorowsky.

El Topo was weird. I liked the first half, but the second part was just plain weird
Jodorowsky is okay; he happened to be in the right place at the right time but other than that he's not something to celebrate.

I think he has a unique enough vision to stand out (if only because of the mexican imagery) if you take his films on the psychedelic angle he's going for (to quote him “I ask of cinema what most North Americans ask of psychedelic drugs"). The visuals and soundtrack work together in a way I could only describe in terms of using these aforementioned drugs which is cliche but its a very strange, beautiful place once you find it.
Sure, he could probably be criticised to high hell and has been from what i've seen but what i've gotten out of his movies is an beautiful and disturbing experience i've never felt anywhere else. I don't know if his films are as deeply allegorical as people say they are, as it does seem like a lot of everything but the kitchen sink thrown together insanity but still i've never seen anything quite like El Topo or The Holy Mountain.
You should upload that soundtrack. :)
It'll be up later. Theres two versions, the Shades of Joy jam band rendition of it (the official soundtrack) which is easy to find and the original score which was released with the El Topo boxset in 2007 (which was slightly more difficult to track down but a much better OST).
