I've never played a talkbox, so I'm building a ghetto one to see how I like it, or if I could actually get decent at it and make something with it.

I already have parts picked out for a "real" talkbox I'd like to build after this one, if I happen to like it.

But with this one, every time I plug in the speaker to the earphone/out on my amp, I get no sound at all. I tried a totally different speaker for the talkbox, and still nothing. I plugged in a pair of headphones, and that worked; however, I can't use those because the headphone speakers are far too quiet (I couldn't even hear it through the tube) and they would distort way too easily.
I'm using just a cheap 10 watt practice amp for this. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? At first I was thinking that maybe the speaker had the wrong ohm rating, but it's a 4 ohm. I don't know what my practice amp is rated at though.

For the one I built I used a powered computer speaker. Disconnected the speak from the casing and put it in a piece of plumbing cab type thing then sealed it by fitting the rubber part of a plunger over it, making it air-tight. I drilled a hole through the plumbing cap and ran the hose out of it. I think you plug the speaker into your amps effect in or out or the headphones spot. From there, when you play your guitar, the sound will come out the tube to your mouth and not the amp.
