Fairly self-explanatory - dig out the first piece you ever put together and post it here for our viewing pleasure.

Don't be a wimp, we all started somewhere, and it'll be interesting to see how far we've all come... :)

Because it was my thread, I suppose I'd best go first. This was I think my third ever post on MX, some 4 years ago...

"Home"

Verse 1
I went and did it again
I f*cked up everything that makes me feel ok
I'm going downhill again
I know I shouldn't but I'll keep going anyway

Bridge 1
and I wonder where I'm going wrong
I f*ck things up and move right on
It makes no sense at all
(makes no sense)
I know you've been up all night long,
I know that what we had is gone
but now

Chorus
I wanna go home
I've had enough of life kicking me now
I wanna go home
I don't care about nobody no more, no
I wanna go home
Not gonna go where life is telling me to,
no way

Verse 2
My eyes are bloodshot and red
three nights of beer are swimming round and round my head
I'm probably better off dead
and you're p*ssed off at stuff that I never even said

Bridge 2
So I guess it's just another day
For me to find a hundred ways
to mess this all right up
(mess this up)
I know there's nothing I can say
to turn this round but I can't wait
so now

Chorus
I wanna go home
I've had enough of life kicking me now
I wanna go home
I don't care about nobody no more, no
I wanna go home
Not gonna go where life is telling me to,
no way

Interlude/Solo

Chorus
I wanna go home
I've had enough of life kicking me now
I wanna go home
I don't care about nobody no more, no
I wanna go home
Not gonna go where life is telling me to...

today.

I hope I've moved on a bit from the Allister-esque phase I was going through at the time... :p

Hmmmm, my first two song lyrics seem to have been lost. I'll try to unearth the oldest known song lyrics that I have.

Yeah, I know I have a couple of older ones than this lurking around somewhere, but they're on my old computer, and I'm not hauling that virus-ridden monster out of the attic just for those!

:(

I can't say I've got any of my early stuff on this computer, otherwise I would, just to laugh at how bad they are.

Okay.

Poppies in October

You see it in the space between
sleepy, shutter-dropped buildings,
the color of sickness the sky turns
when it knows no one's looking.

Shuffling against a stab of red
poppies in grey weather,
a death rattle calls, rustling.

You hear it in the space between
spaces--passing cars, worn-out faces--,
the scrape of autumnal husks

shuffling against a stab of red
poppies in wet weather.
A death-siren calls;

poppies in red weather, wailing
poppies in red weather, wailing

we-you, we-you, we-you
I just want to know what the **** an "autumnal husk" is.

Christ. I'm sorry, guys.

The first song I wrote was when I was eight and it was something like "everyone's got something they're good at, football, basketball, baseball YEAH!"

Haha, hey... it's better than mine!

I quite liked 'we-you we-you' - that raised a chuckle. All in all though, if a new guy posted something like this, I'd be reasonably impressed.

I think everyone's like that with their early stuff though. I suppose it's nice to see how far we've all come though.

I'm like that with everything I write.

I don't have the first thing I wrote, I lost it when my computer crashed.
I've got the first thing I posted though.

Can you hold a river on your finger?
As the water’s glove draws wrinkles on skin
Walnut palms speak of time left to linger
In calms; else waves out of ripples begin.
So I move my hand against river’s flow,
I swirl the silt and play with river’s stones.
and dream as I watch pebbles fall below,
Destined to lie on beds of sand, and bone.
Yet, stroked by a single spiraling leaf,
on the tepid pool; waves, that rose and grew
from echoes of touch, still hidden beneath
are thoughts and chances and choices and you
And when hand hangs dry, and has lost its grip
move from the edge, and from the river slip.

Why the **** did I post a sonnet?
