View Full Version : ps3 vs xbox360

So just as the title says, I want to get one of them, and I've read some momments on them.
Both systems have fairly similar graphics in Need for Speed Carbon, but the Xbox 360 has better lighting while the PS3 has sharper textures. The 360 has better high dynamic range lighting in the Camaro image. We're not sure if the PS3 version blurs the background tree leaves on purpose, but it's another noticeable difference. The lighting in the street shot appears more realistic on the 360, but the building textures are sharper on the PS3. We also seem to be missing some lighting and a few landmarks in the rearview mirror of the PS3 version.
And this:

At last I decided to get a ps3, I just want to know where did you buy yours? The lowest price I can find for the 40GB is $395:

Is that a wise decision and is that a good price for it??

i got my ps3 from best buy. i don't know of any places that offer them cheaper than anywhere else. i'd just go to the store and buy one.
anyway, if you get a ps3, pick up Uncharted. Awesome game

Bought my PS3 at EB Games. I got the 60GB for $700 a couple months after it was released....they were very hard to come by, so I got lucky when I found one there.
And I still haven't played Uncharted....honestly don't know why. Guess NHL 08 and Guitar Hero 3 are keeping me busy enough for now :)

I wouldn't want a PS3 atm. Not a very appealing library imo.

Well not really for Halo...but just overall better games. And the cross-platform games look better for the most part.
Until MGS4 and FFXIII finally come out, PS3 won't have much going for it.

Halo isn't bad. I like that game. It's the game that got me into shooters and away from sports games.

I bought me a 360 just because they have so many more games, but the PS3's games look quite awesome too. GT5 comes to mind. It depends on if you like selection more than graphics or vice versa, methinks.

Better to have a 400$ DVD player that can play video games then a 600$ DVD player that isn't as good.

360 is pretty much better than ps3. ps3 has pretty crappy games and an inferior online play compared to the 360.

then why would you buy it now rather then in 3 years when one good ps3 comes out and the ps3 will be cheaper

I've owned a 360 for many months and I'd have to say PS3 is easily the better system. The only thing it lacks compared to 360 is a library, but this year is bringing a number of great PS3 games.

360 and PS3 I feel to be, At The Moment, comparable. PS3 has FAAAAR more potential as it is based on Blu-ray, and once game designers truley begin to use the full capacity afforded them, PS3 will be far and beyond superior.

There is an equal or greater number of games coming out for the 360 this year, in addition to the awesome library already out.

atm a 360 is the better choice.
If you want a PS3 wait until there are better games out and it's cheaper, there's like what two good games that aren't on the 360 atm? Also all the PS3 ports are a hell of a lot cheaper on the 360 as they've been out a whole lot longer.
Also did they release the six axis with rumble yet? If not at least wait for that.

360 is better.
All the decent games for PS3 are also available on 360, (aside from Uncharted). As for upcoming games. For PS3 there's Metal Gear 4, Gran Turismo 5. So the PS3's future is looking promising, but it's still a hefty price.
having owned both, i would say ps3. A lot more potential, and the blu-ray is v nice if you have a good tv. A quick analysis
PS3:
Blu-ray
built in wifi
sixaxis
much quieter than the 360, and imho it feels more solid; 360 always felt like it was going to fall apart. also doesn't get as hot
360:
a lot more games
much larger online community
Both are good buys, and the 360 is a bit cheaper. However based on potential, and if yo have an HDTV and enough money that you're willing to put down, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't get the PS3! My humble opinion, anyway.
oh and ps i only paid $200 for my ps3 :smoke:

I'm all for 360 but that's the most generic answer you can give.
Most people who play their 360 everyday, or every other day (fools), are connected to Live, where you can do a lot of cool things and the online play is seamless.
Give me one reason why PS3 is even close to where the 360 is at?
Bluray does not count.

Sixaxis is embarassing. I don't understand why they had to sacrifice a rumble feature to instead include a half baked motion sensing thing.

They say they had it in development for years but it was probably just because of the Wii.
I think MGS4 will be the first PS3 game to actually use it effectively.

MGS4 looks pretty awesome.
But if i'm being nitpicky, i'd say it looked over-complicated.
But that's just me being rubbish at games.

PS3. Why? It's one of, if not the best Blu Ray player our there right now. Load times are much faster than any of the stand alone players I've looked at. Now there probably aren't as many quality games out for it now compared to the Xbox, but PS3 has some good ones coming out in the near future (GTA, FF, ...other ones) The Wi-Fi is pretty cool as well. Hoping on to the Playstation store and downloading demos is kind of nice.
I bought mine mainly to use as a Blu Ray player, but of course I've ended up buying games for it. Only complaint I have is the game library right now but that should get better in the near future.

GTA has been announced for 360 now
It's way too expensive just to use it for a blu ray player, plus you need to have a pretty decent tv to take full advantage of it.
It's just not worth the money atm

Too expensive? Even the CHEAPEST stand-alone Blu Ray players are just now starting to get below 399, and those are the bottom of the line ones that give you a nice 15+ second load time in a lot of places. You can also download updates constantly through the PS3 so you can be sure that new movies coming out playing in different codecs or whatever will work with your player. There's already issues with some movies (Die Hard, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc) not being able to play on some stand-alone Blu Ray players.
As far as the TV goes, you can get a 42" HD 1080p name brand television for not much more than 1000 if you wait for things to go on sale or find good deals online. Prices have fallen on larger LCDs/Plasmas considerably over the last few years and I assume they will continue to do so.

I will probably end up buying a PS3 when the price drops a bit more. The 40GB is £299 here (approx. $585) but is not backwards compatible and doesn't have the memory stick card readers like the 60GB, which is about £600 (approx. $1,174).
Ideally i'd want the 60GB, and we will inevitably buy an HDTV in the future. But there has to be a really good selection of games. MGS4 and GT5 aren't gonna cut it on their own

My roomates and I got a used 52" for under 400 bucks. Only a year old. Admittedly, its a Rear-projection as opposed to flatscreen, but we hardly can complain at the price we got.
This thread is complete flamebait, even if it wasn't intended to be.

My 2 cents
for games 360 is the better choice, anyone who says the ps3 is better in this area is sorely mistaken. most games on the ps3 are coming out on the 360 as well, and the exclusives (minus MGS4 and Killzone 2) don't really warrant me dropping 100-200 extra dollars on a system that doesn't even have the games/online features to back it up.
For HD purposes:
If I was shopping strictly on the basis of beefing up a home entertainment system for HD compatibility, I'd pick the ps3 because it seems to me that Blu-Ray is winning the new HD medium war. The fact that it's the cheapest blu-ray player on the market as well as a video game console really makes it attractive in that aspect.
Alas, I'm a poor gamer without an HDTV, and it's just that...I'm a gamer...I'll stick with the 360.
