im not putting this in the bass forum cause they dont know NUTHIN. i figure since this area of music has the most female bassists, this would be the best place for it.
i think Tara Jane O'Neil from Rodan is the best i've heard recently. the band plays this brooding, Slint-like music laced with outbursts of heavy post-hardcore rage. the bass almost never plays the guitar's root notes, instead going off on its own little melodies. its one of the things i look for when i consider a bassist, and O'Neil did it well with Rodan
so who are your picks? and please dont say Kim Gordon, she doesn't even consider herself a musician. she's an integral part of SY but her bass playing really has nothing to do with it.
i would say Caithlin De Marrais and Naomi Yang, their stuff isnt super technical or groundbreaking but i like both of their stuff.
I am a fan of Yula Be'eri from World/Inferno Friendship Society and Nanuchka.

Is Tara Jane O'Neil's solo stuff the antithesis to Rodan?

Kim Gordon is a genius. Downstrokes and eighth notes had never been done before she picked up a bass.

she was the fillin bassist when d'arcy the first bassist left. they were good but form what i understood billy basically wrote everything and then the girls just played their pieces.
i think paz lenchantin is awesome, for her work with APC even though billy howerdel wrote a lot of it. she plays violas and stuff which also makes her cool.

Nah, what about Janet Weiss, man, she's quite a broad. Or what's her face from the Boredoms. Or Mo Tucker. They're out there, man.
