in your opinion what's the best silent hill game?

i've been a resident evil fan ever since i played re2. i just want a kinda similar game to start playing. then silent hill came to mind.

i want to start playing silent hill, but i don't know which one i should start with?

if you're not a silent hill fan recommend something along the lines of indigo prophecy, or fatal frame (project zero).

i care about the graphics and stuff, but doesn't really bother me.

is it more like the traditional resident evil games, or more like the outbreaks? because i didn't like the resident evil: outbreak series.

It's pretty much like the traditional RE games, without all the guns and stuff. Much more psychological.

It also contains the default survival-horror clunky controls.

And if you're going to get into the series, you might as well start from the begining.

The first game is my favorite, although 2 and 3 are really good too.

But like the other guy said, you might as well start at the beginning. I really do think it's the best one.

Keep in mind though, it's a Playstation 1 game, so you're going to have to deal with shitty graphics.

Start from the beginning, though it looks a bit dated the original SH has left something of a legacy. Comparisons to RE2 usually involve people pointing out RE has more "Boo" type shocks and a stronger combat system where Silent Hill is more of a subtle, creepy experience that plays on psychological triggers.

I'm playing through the first now after about 6 years when I played it as a kid so I can finally get to the 2nd and then the 3rd :)

silent hill 3 was bomb, good storyline and really intense moments. created a really tense creepy atmosphere. then again all the games suceeded in doing that. but i thought the execution of the third one was probably the best in the series.

3 is more gameplay oriented, 2 is more atmospheric and cinematic IMO. Play both.
