Whenever it's raining I chuck on Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain. That or Psychocandy. Darklands is just my rainy album for some reason.

Roadhouse Blues - The Doors
A Long Way Down - Matthew Good
Sleep - The Dandy Warhols
The above are more just rainy day songs but if you were looking to combat thunder with a good pair of head phones and a more aggressive tune..
Day Of The Baphomets - The Mars Volta
Die Young - Black Sabbath

depends what feeling you want. Black sabbath by black sabbath is a perfect song for a big **** of storm. sounds evil. Give that a shot.

one time me and my friend were really high and we were listening to Drove Through Ghosts To Get Here while watching the snow fall, and it was pretty sweet

Thats illegal.
And I listen to post rock when its really rainy. Preferably Slint, although I've settled for Explosions in the Sky. Explosions is more football watching music though.
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works '92-'95
i listened to this while i was driving through the snow and the rain and it was beautiful.
Galaxie 500 - On Fire
