What do you think of it? Like the way it's run? Think we should increase public housing? Or should eliminate it?

selling back council houses (i guess what you call public housing) is one of the few things thatcher got right, what can i say when she got it right she really got it right.
the funny thing is council estates (i don't know if you get them in the US... http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/b/b1/300px-Carradale_House.jpg)
used to be really nice places to live, they slowly degenerated in the 70s along with everything else and it's the only thing that hasn't recovered since. now they're pretty crap places to live and some are even notorious for crime.
anyway i dunno it's definitely necessary just keep it to a minimum with lots of opportunities for people to buy them once they have the means.

People should look after themselves but for the few unfortunate souls who can't such as the elderly and the disabled the state should provide housing. As for those who for whatever cannot afford, the state should provide temporary residence, a kind of help them help themselves system.

I've had to go to public hosing multiple times for my job, while its a good idea, a lot of the people who live there do not respect it, or even seem to be remotely grateful for the help they are receiving. It seems to me some of the policy needs to be changed.

There is a nice program here, I don't know if it's common everywhere or what... the program helps low-income families build their own house, and instead of putting down a 10-20% or whatever down payment, the family has to put in X number of hours working on building the house. Then the family moves in and assumes payments for the house. I think it's a great program.

if the abuse of the system was watched more, no one would have negative things to say about everyone having a home to live in

Reduce and reform, but not eliminate it.

I'm for reform of Section 8 and the housing authority overall in NYC. I can't comment on how public housing is handled anywhere else. I think it does a great service to those in need in theory but like other social system in this country those in charge corrupt and ruin it for everyone else.
The Public Housing Authority here in NYC and those who control Section 8 housing in NYC are corrupt as any bureacracy. As well, the same people who corrupt and exploit the welfare system exploit public housing as well. It's perfect for drug dealers and scamsters who live a tax free cash only lifestyle as they get free housing, welfare and WIC, yet make more money then we could imagine.
Those who really do need public housing are put on waiting lists while the Housing Authority takes bribes to keep apartments wrapped up for use in drug labs and by the more powerful drug lords in each respective project in the ghetto.
