He was a Beekeeper, he definitely enjoyed humour a fair bit. No man can Keep the Bee's and not enjoy a good laugh. I'm sure he'd be honoured we're laughing at his death.

He was 88. Dying is pretty much what they do. Plus he had a pretty good life from all accounts. There's talk of making his birthday a national holiday in NZ, but I think that's a bit ridiculous.
I'm much more distressed by the death of child cancer victims, to be honest.
