Either no one in here can write anything mildly appealing, or I've become an extreme-lyrical-elitest.
There's been like a month or so long drought of not a single good set of lyrics (That I've noticed).
It makes me a sad panda. :upset:

Anyone who spends a majority of their time on the internet writing poetry and and song lyrics is not going to do either one well because they're skipping out on the actual life experience that makes good lyrics good.

Very good call Jarred.
On the bright side at least they're not going out and being dumped and whining it out to us on here in a piece of awful dribble (sp?)?

I don't think this is the case, judging on what i've read from you.
However your point is relatively valid, the quality of work posted here is not great.
I think there is a clear lack of regular posters who consistently contribute high quality work.
The majority of posting seems to be first time writers or those who write the same song over and over and never improve. I guess the shoddy state of most peoples critiques doesn't help either.
Things'll probably never change. Not any time soon anyway.

Do I contribute quality work? Lol. And yeah. But this place isn't as bad as musicbanter.com

I disagree with this. Part of writing is invention. Not all good writing is auto biographical, not all good writing is pure fiction. It depends entirely on the writer.

yo

If you feel so down on the state of affairs, get some freaking in-depth-as-all-hell critiques going. I know I listen to what people say about my writing, and if you give good advice anyone who is serious will listen. Perhaps not in their current work (out of stubbornness) but certainly in later ones.
And if the state of critiques improves, people will certainly stick around and certainly improve and churn out better and better stuff.
From experience, I used to post a lot under another username (long time ago, don't remember password..back when mxtabs was around) but I left since I felt the things people were saying, on the occasion they actually said something, weren't helping me in my writing. Now I feel like to improve I need criticism from writers and not people who are like 'thats good,' so I'm coming back to this community since I do have some good memories of it.
In short, I'm pretty sure whatever anyone puts into the community will come out to the rest of the community.
And for people who are first time writers, please try and encourage them! It sickens me to see 'Wow. That was terrible.' after a post, because these people are really trying and sometimes really getting something out. Yes, it's not good, but if you try to point out the flaws in a more constructive way, the serious ones will stay in the community and improve.
Also remember that there are things which work in song, but not in poetry, and vice versa. Be a bit mindful of that. People also have different goals, and not that we should let sloppy writing slide, but we certainly shouldn't push everyone toward our own style or our own preference.
What certainly won't help the community is a big catch-all thread insulting everyone. If you are a better writer than us, help us more.

I do help you more. Look around I crit. a fair few Poems/Lyrics and the like. And I'd say I give half decent crit. too.
My logic is, you write better and I won't be writing "Wow. That was terrible."
Anyways.

Hmmm I should crit and write more on here. I've staked it out for so long here though, I just don't feel it that much anymore. Hopefully I can get back into teh swing of things.

It's a vicious circle.
If no-one is writing anything truly worth critiquing, then it stands to reason that the number of critiques is not going to be there.
On the flipside, if no-one is getting any decent critiques, the veterans are going to get disillusioned (because we're all artistic types and are highly strung like that, naturally ;) ), the new guys aren't going to improve and the community slowly dies out like it is now. I don't want this place to go, because as far as I'm concerned, the bunch of guys (and the occasional gal) we have here are great writers and offer genuinely good advice.
Basically, we need to get our fingers out of our collective backsides and put in the effort with the new guys - we've all been here long enough to know who's going to benefit from the criticism and who's not, so let's go for it - I know we've all got a bit lazy and slack and just don't feel like critiquing, but if we want to get this place alive and kicking, we have to be the ones to put in the effort, so let's at least try.

Haha whatever, its all the same man.
And I agree, really we just need to get out and help people out with their ****. I've been trying to do that in a lot of situations.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the reason most of the work isnt of high caliber is because people do come here to better themselves and the art of writing. I used to be on here quite often and had several songs posted up that recieved great reviews, and thats what leads to better writing. People need to provide more in-depth, informational critiques to help eachother out. I'm not saying that you can save everyone now, haha. But people have times when they will write beautifully, and those are more of what we need to inspire people to do.
(I've actually had a long hiatus from this site, and have been writing alot, so expect to hear from me more often, I used to post regularly on here...with that being said, if you run across any of my new works...be generous...haha)

People suck at writing, that's a quiet evident truth.
So it's ok to hate.
