I need to buy some new strings for my mandolin.
Been playing it quite a bit lately, though. I go through phases where I'll play it solid for a month and then not touch it for a couple months.

Mandolins are really cool sounding, they're versatile, and really good for classical music. Not to mention fun and easy to carry around.
ok they are cool sounding i can see how u would think that
how are they versatile?
whats makes them really good for classical music? (this one is really confusing)
agreed they are fun and probably eay to carry around but u can say that about a fleshlight

Mandolins can be used for just about any genre. Whenever I'm jamming with some friends I can just pull out the mandolin and pull off any genre they're playing.
I don't have much to explain the classical music part except that I've tried out classical songs with my mandolin and they sound great.

not much to really prove about mandolins its just an instrument
ya you could play classical music on it thats not really the standard but it could be done
they are infinitely versatile because they can play notes which is just about as versatile as you can get w/ an instrument

I have a mandolin lying around my room. I find it a bit hard to play the tiny little thing though 'cause I'm used to playing bass and I haven't practised enough on the mandolin. Bugger to tune as well.

k im having some problems lowering the action on my mandolin its really high and i screwed the things on the bridge down as low as they can go but it hardly made a difference and when i examined other mandolins of the same brand and model the bridge was able to go way lower than mine
wtf should i do do i need to get a new bridge

Mandolins are pretty sweet.
Octave Mandolins are what I enjoy playing around with the most of instruments in that family. I hope to get a Trinity College model in the future.

I've been playing for a few years. I had an el cheapo johnson, but last year I recieved a spectacular Morgan Monroe for my graduation gift.

Mandolins are lovely instruments. I like it cus its like a violin and a guitar had a mutant baby. Or something.
I have a really nice book of ancient Greek tunes for mandolin. The Greek notation system is a complete bugger to learn, but once you've translated it the tunes are lovely.

gotta love the mandolins. Got given a leftie Antoria mandolin as a gift a few years ago. Whilst I dont playit as much as my guitar or bass, its always great fun to break it out and have a blast.
I find it sits paticularly well in folk music. I have a folky bluesy jam with my neighbors once a week, and once I get too drunk to play guitar I just switch to the mandolin. The sound you get out of them just backing other people up playing chords is really great. if you listen any album where acoustic guitars feature heavily, if you listen out, someones usually stuck a mandolin track in the mix somewhere. The roundness an clarity of the voice has the same sort of effect as a twelve string guitar in giving a song that warm, well rounded sound.
