I was wondering if anyone outside the UK was familliar with Foals? They're getting pretty big over here and I was interested to see if that has at all transferred over to the US or elsewhere. I guess they're inspired by the likes of Don Caballero, Sweep the Leg Johnny, Battles etc but they have a pop sensibility which has opened them up to the masses a bit more. I can see them as a band that is going to be massively hated and equally loved by the time they release their debut, but after following them for a few years they've become one of my favorite new UK bands.

Their album 'Antidotes' (due in March) was originally produced by Dave Sitek (TOTR) but they rejected his final mix and did it again by themselves because he made it sound too 'spacey' with too much reverb. They became famous over here for their energetic live performances amd DIY ethic, which has seen them play gigs at house parties frequently after shows whilst on tour. They've toured the uk constantly this year (I've seen them 6 times) and there was also a limited edition live 7" released which I've linked below.

Also, Foals have possibly the worst fanbase in the world.

They're one of the most tolerable british indie bands around at the moment.

I've got the Hummer single, with Hummer and one other song (Astronauts and All). It's cool, and I can dance to it. YAAAS!

I like a lot of the stuff Dave Sitek does and I've been hearing some stuff about this band.

I don't know; I might listen to them. They had a blurby thing in Rolling Stone that praised them for making "math rock" that was "intelligent" which I thought was ok.

I've got the Hummer single, with Hummer and one other song (Astronauts and All). It's cool, and I can dance to it. YAAAS!Atronauts and All is such a cool song, but they've stopped playing it live now and it's not going to be on the new album :( I got the Balloons single on 7" the other day but I'm away from my flat so I havn't had a chance to listen to the b-side yet.

I was at the festival from that second video I linked and it was insane. They were orginally meant to be playing earlier on in a smaller tent but it was too packed and security wouldn't let them start because it was dangerous. Then it got upgraded and they were playing inside of this barn but they still packed it out and there were mass queues outside. One of the most mental gigs I've been to.

A couple of my friends saw them live recently when they supported Bloc Party, and apparently they were awesome then as well. The video looks like it was a blast.

I love foals. I'm in New Zealand. Few others have heard of them though, I did through a frieend who I went to school with when I lived in the UK.
Why do you say they have the worst fans in the world by the way? The official forum is one of the most entertaining places on the net in my book.

i have since seen this band live, and will confirm that they put on a fu'cking excellent live show.

i'm not a big fan of their album though, it's decent but nothing special. some good songs, but very little replay value. they are a FUN band though, and i'm probably gonna go see them again in October.

their fans are alright, because lots of them are cute girls. the ones that aren't, well yes, they tend to be pretty terrible people.

I'm definately seeing them in October because their support bands include Maps + Atlases (first ever uk tour), Holy ****, Dananananakroyd and Wild Beasts :)

i think Maps + Atlases are playing their own show in Scotland, was planning to go to that one as well if money is good.

Danananaykroyd are supporting Foals here, that's another reason I'm going...I saw them supporting Melt Banana and they were great. Totally energetic and in yr face - them and Foals will be an excellent night.

I like foals quite a lot, they certainly aren't math rock. The b side on the balloons 7" is called dearth and i think it's a great song.

are M&A really supporting their October dates?

It pisses me off that bands have touched on this style of music so many times and then Foals are seen by so many as something unique and refreshing becuase its up in the charts with c'ock party.

Just heard of them yesterday. The instrumentations alright but I can't stand the vocals, but it's pretty well the same with most UK "indie" bands.

Just downloaded Antidotes, it's pretty sweet. Might try and catch one of their gigs, also due to the fact that Maps & Atlases are playing. Been itching to see them live.

i heard Foals when someone requested a song of theirs, and it was actually really good. but i never got the chance to get the CD... then just recently i was at the record store lookin around and it came down to Tortoise - It's All Around You and the Foals record, and i actually picked Tortoise. i'm pretty glad i did because it ****in rules, but so that means i still haven't heard more than one Foals song. but i went on Youtube and looked at one of their shows, and they really rock live... people all over the stage and **** it looked real fun

also, Interstate, you should really go to that show

I'm gonna try to but it's a question of money. Got my first proper paycheck from a new job so I'm trying to watch the finances and not go too mad. Already booked tickets to Death Cab & Mountain Goats but there's a ton of other shows I want to go to as well. Maps & Atlases are apparently supporting Foals on their UK tour but I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere. If they are I'll definitely try and make it.

Maps and atlases are only doing half the dates, but all the supports for the gigs are amazing. You'll either get Maps + Atlases and Wild Beasts or Holy **** and Dananananakroyd. I think the exact supports are on Foals' myspace, but it's gonna be a great bill regardless of who you get out of that lot.

I can't stand Cassius.

It's association with the TV show 'skins' has just ruined that song for me.

I downloaded a few more of their songs and well yeah they're pretty decent.

I just checked the date in London that they are playing and Maps & Atlases aren't supporting. Bollocks!

Don't know if I can go because I'm a bit tight on money till payday and the tickets are like £30. I'd go if M&A were supporting though.

Why are tickets so expensive?

That was on one ticket site I got told about by my friend which has some good bands that are usually sold out on other sites but so expensive.

I just checked aloud.com and it's about £20 with postage and fees. Really wanted to see Maps & Atlases though.

I have been listening to Foals on a fairly regular basis recently - like them a lot more than I thought I would given their obsessively 'cool' image. Decent dancey easy listening fun band but a bit unfinished. Looking forward to giving the new album a chance.
