I was listening to the new Dinosaur Jr. and decided to make this thread because, obviously, J Mascis is amazing.
Here's my list, in no particular order:
01. J Mascis
02. Mike Cooley (Drive-By Truckers)
03. Bob Mould
04. Jay Farrar (especially Uncle Tupelo)
05. Neil Young
06. Bob Stinson (the Replacements)
07. Johnny Ramone

I was just listening to Beyond as well so J Mascis is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this. Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo also deserve a mention and as far as newer stuff goes, the Minus The Bear dudes are good.

I was gonna say Johnny Marr. I don't really listen to a lot of this genre for the guitar. Like, the guitar is very good often times, but more at creating a mood than really sticking out on its own. Like for example I'm listening to Storm by Godspeed U right now, and there is this really neato haunting guitar part in it that is definitely cool, but it just kinda repeats and isn't really technical or anything. Not saying all guitar has to be technical, but you catch my drift.

1. Duane Denison
2. Verlaine/Lloyd (Television)
3. Moore/Ranaldo (Sonic Youth)
4. MacKaye/Picciotto (Fugazi)
5. Buzz Osbourne
6. Snider/Knudson (MTB)
none of these are in any particular order except #1. Denison is my fav. by far
also, in case you cant tell, i love guitar duos. especially when they break away from the lead/rhythm structure and its just one intertwining sound (which most of the guys on this list do to perfection)
