Hello all!

I'm on the verge of buying new equipment but I'm lost.
I have different rigs I'm looking at and basically its GK versus Ampeg.

The first rig I'm looking at is the SVT-3-PRO with a 410HLF cabinet. After doing a lot of research and some testing I have to say i love the tone this set produces but I found some reviews and people saying that in the end, this SVT-3-PRO doesnt go loud enough to play live agains a loud drummer and a loud guitarist. I don't want that to happen nor do I have the budget to get a bigger head and cabinet from Ampeg.

Then i got a lead in the GK section. After reading a lot of reviews I'm really convinced GK will definately go loud enough.

I have 2 sets i'm interested in.

First one is second hand in mint condition:
1001RB-II head
410SBX
115SBX-II

and the other rig i was looking at was
1001RB-II head
410RBH/4 ohm

The problem I have with GK is the sound. I have no chance of testing this rig allthough, once you go into this price range you will get a decent tone. The thing is, knowing i like a good warm tone that can blow you off your socks, can GK deliver this? I'm really desperate here.

On the other hand, if you have decent alternatives, please, do share them with me and give me a decent explanation. Saying stuff like go Orange is not really helpfull for me.

Thx

Dimitri

I'd say go with GK, but the ampeg will probably be loud enough, since you'd be running it at 4 ohms with the 410HLF.

GK amps are great so you can't really go wrong with them

if you're looking for other brands to try maybe look into Hartke or Ashdown.

I have a GK700RB-II and its plenty loud enough. You get a GK head you will be happy. I think your safe on that one, but if you like Ampeg tone, why fix whats not broken?

Anyway I can't say I really like GK cabs, I find them to be overpriced. The 115 is quite nice, its focus and could be used as a standalone cab.The GK410 oddly enough has a lot of bass, more than the 115 and didn't dig the sound too much. The GK neo 212 is a great cab as well.

NOTE: Steer clear of the GK goldline its pure crap.

and the other rig i was looking at was
1001RB-II head
412RBH/4 ohm

This cab does not exist.

The only 412 that GK makes is from the Neo series, not the RBH series. If that's a used listing I'd double-check with the seller to make sure he actually knows what he's selling.

GK Neo410 @ RMC Audio: $475 USD (tax and shipping included)

...I'd hardly call that overpriced... but that's just me :p

I'm sorry, my mistake i made a mistake :D I edited it out to the right one, it had to be 410RBH :D

@HoW The problem is volume with Ampeg. Thats what i'm afraid off

Whoa I think I was GC a couple weeks ago and they had it up for $600. That being said....

I paid $450 for my Aguilar 212(new condition 600 watts @ 8OHMS) which i choose an epifani 310($500) and an Epifani 212($525)

EDIT: Dimitri why don't you upgrade you Ampeg to one with a bigger power displacement and uses the same pre amp.

So get the SVT-3-PRO and get a separate poweramp to place in the rack?
This way i keep the Ampeg tone but get more volume? (Bit new to this :D)

No I'm saying get an Ampeg SVP http://cgi.ebay.com/Ampeg-SVP-Preamp-SVT_W0QQitemZ200184453639QQihZ010QQcategoryZ121156 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and find a power amp as well to put in the rack.

I'll keep that in mind. Now, on saturday i'm going to do one of the most important things i can do, and thats kick the living hell out of that SVT-3-PRO and see how loud it can really get. I tested it only once. I really need a second opinion
