I recently hear about James Jamerson and how he's a great funk bassist so if someone could tell me what bands he played in that would be great.

Yea that's a sweet tune, but I don't think Jamerson played that one. I think it was a guy named Wilton Felder.

Oh my bad, I just assumed James Jamerson played for them because he played bass for some songs for Jackson 5, oh well.

Check out the basslines on Bernadette by the 4 Tops, and For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder.

Seriously, Jameson was such the perfect guy for motown and funk!

Motown had some seriously great musicians working for them. Check out as much of it as you can.

Definitely check out I Heard it Through the Grapevine by Gladys Knight and the Pips. I wouldn't suggest trying to learn it but defintely give it a listen.
You shouldn't be trying to learn the notes so much as the overall feel and groove he had going in the songs.

Umm.. No. Every soul band?

He played strictly for Motown and the only "band" he played in was the Funk Brothers, who were more a collection of session players for Motown than a real band. Jamerson toured only a few times for the label. The most famous is his tour with Marvin Gaye.
