It's supposed to be an amazing preamp. A lot of people thing it's what makes the Sadowsky basses sound so good. No personal experience with it, though; it's all just hearsay.

Guy I met had a '75 (i think) reissue fender, and had it modded with one of those.
OMG. I **** myself.

you're going to have to route out your bass

They hate selling them without installing them for you, but yes they are amazing.
EDIT: I just noticed it's an aftermarket place distributing it.
Cool! Sadowsky used to be pains in the butt in the past and wouldn't sell it without installing it.

I take it you consider it a waste of money and resources to put a Sadowsky preamp into a Hoppus bass?

i think it would be a waste not to. im not using the bass as much as id like to, this would definetly allow me to consider using this bass oppose to another during a show or in the studio. plus hoppus basses do look nice, so this would make it an all around great bass

Ok well, first off you gunna need to some serious mods to the bass. It is a J body want to convert it to a complete P configuration without the J(so Jazz PG).... It think it might sound nice. I don't see why not.

Uh. Why does he have to mod the body, beyond routing for the pre?

Where do the knobs go genius?

Hence "beyond the routing for the pre." l2read, k?
Drilling a few holes is hardly "serious mods," eh?

Why should he convert it to a P configuration? Rather, why do you seem to think it is necessary?

I just think it would looking funny with a bunch of knobs just there. Look at the Hoppus bass.

I'm saying change the pickguard to that you would find on a PJ, so it will end up looking more like this, just without the J pickup.

Now there is room for the pre. It makes sense buddy.

yeah the only issue is that the jazz has the output on the side, i wouldnt want to mod it that much.. althought maybe i can grab a stacked pot to replace two seperate pots.. hmm

The side jack is a really easy mod. It's literally just drilling holes.
Regardless, I understand your point. I personally would stack it:
Volume (top)|Pan (bottom) and Treble|Bass.
Then you could keep the front-facing jack.

You could buy the out-board preamp and not change anything... then you could use it for all your basses too.

you're also going to have to make room in the body for the preamp. hoppus is passive, sadowsky pre is active. you're going to need a battery container too.
have fun with this one

I don't have any pics of that thing anymore. I routed out the existing pickup cavity to allow for a larger pickup, cut a new pickguard for the new pickup, routed out a compartment for the preamp and routed out another compartment for the battery. All in all it was a large pain in the butt, but it was a lot of fun and a great learning experience.
This has already been mentioned, but I would suggest just getting the outboard version of the pre. No modification will be required to the bass, and then you could use the pre with your other basses as well. Its the exact same circuit as the onboard, so the tone will be the same.
