Though i do agree with you, I think it's frowned upon here to post videos to make an example of why a certain band/artist sucks.

I think the video shows what happens when you put 3 musicians who all think they're pioneers together with a drummer who's trying desperately hard to keep some level of groove going

Oh I'm definately not doing one of those immature "omg he suxxxx lawlawlawl!!!oneone22CHORD!" things. It is a serious question in that I'm sure someone could tell me what I am overlooking and if there is some thing I'm just not "getting" but as far as I can tell there isn't anything to get.

Is it just more or does his worlds first 15 string bass(the one in the video is fretless) sound like ****. I mean seriously, I paid £300 for my Fretless, and it sounds a million times better than this fellating piece of ****

I mean lol, seriously, about one person clapped at the end of that video and they're all like "aww shucks".

are those players famous or something? didn't think it was too special, just pretty boring riffage with a relatively steady pulse and a guitarist wanking over it... perhaps not very good, but that's subjective. as for music "impossible to understand" or whatever, i don't think that's very special either, but I guess that wasn't your point. but why did you bring this one up? youtube's full of videos that doesn't give me anything or that i don't find good.

are those players famous or something?

Jauqo is one of the first bassists to play very very low notes (C# F# B E tuning or something like that, shame he isn't in these videos) which is about the only thing he's known for. I mean, I remember watching a couple of his slap bass things on Google Video and was like "oh, just another lame solo bassist strutting his fluff" but I never actually knew him and his music was this bad

didn't think it was too special, just pretty boring riffage with a relatively steady pulse and a guitarist wanking over it...

That's almost what Jazz is - they're so totally jazz fusion. Except Jazz and Jazz Fusion is actually good.

urgh, even his name is pretentious, how the hell do you even pronounce Jauqo? There's no "u" after the "q".

The bassist is "famous" he's the dude that had the subcontra bass so he's to blame for the Low C theory and what not. And I brought it up because for someone who is famous or renowned enough to get custom bass endorsement and stuff I'd have assumed he could do something credible or at least musical?

allright, seems like a pretty redundant guy. and i'm not familiar with very much jazz, but i thought that was pretty un-jazzy with the bassist's riffing instead of walking and the guitarist's rock-ish tone. of course the camera recording made it all sound even worse.

Well, maybe it's rock, sounded a bit jazz fusiony to me. Jazz isn't necessarilly trumpets and walking basslines though.

I just went on his website, you can listen to his album aptly named "The Low C# Theory" (cunt yeah?). Though it's definately not as bad as those videos, it's still a compilation of much faggery daggery doo in terms of you can barely here the bass line, proves his theory sucks and still has terrible guitar playing

As dodgy as it looks I think he soudns pretty cool in that video. As for that "band" of his in the orginal post that really is horrific. You can almost see the drummer giving up hope lol

What I'd love is that if a few seconds after we all gave up on the vid it got really great, that'd really be a kick in the balls

Nah what he's playing sounds ok, but they are just practiced riffs, he does nothing interesting and loses the rhythm after a while. He has ok rhythm, but no consistency.

And his fretless intonation is AWFUL

Seriously, I actually lol'd when "Where Did It Go" started. And then continued.

And then kept going.

I mean, if this is how good someone is, musically not technically, after 30 years, they really should have given up a while ago.

Music is meant to be just that, music, not some mathmatical bullshit, that, if you contrive it in some way theoretically works. Woo, if you write all the gashy things youve just played out and work out that it should theoretically sound....something, then well done. It still sounds like *** though.

I've been reading some of his posts on Talkbass and it seems that all the posters on there are completely oblivious to his level of egocentric fail. I really do think most of us here could not only play in a band (regardless of genre) better than him but also do a solo performance (even making a brief stuttering pause to say it's improv) better than him as well.

Remember, that music isn't noise, it's just a different school of jazz that we are too feeble to understand what with our 2-5-1's and 1-4-5's and our hipping and hopping and rocking and rolling.

I just don't see the point of publicly diss'ing him, especially Phalanx taking it to TB to see what kind of reaction he can stir up. Like, "I mean, I know all your online material is quite subpar...", that's just flagrant trolling imo.
