help - cracking/popping speakers with increased imput on head

I have a gk700rbII and whenever I try to adjust the imput volume my speakers crackle and pop untill I stop adjusting, then it will remain quiet throughout playing.

what could be wrong here and how do I find out?

The knob might just be old and wearing out. they have a spray for all potentiometers, and its a few bucks online, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is called.

Sounds like a skanky pots to me. Give them a good dusting and then twizzle them loads (whilst it's off obviously) and it should clear it out.
