Whats the opinions on this album? I have only herd bad things from people but when i actually gave it a chance, i disagree, i like it a lot.
Seems like there is more acoustic songs on this album which is not a bad thing, but definitely a change.

"Around the Sun" is not only the worst R.E.M. album that I've heard but it's one of the worst albums that I've ever listened to.

Murmur > Fables > Lifes Rich Pageant > Reckoning > Document > Automatic > Green > New Adventures > Out of Time > whatever the rest of them suck

Reveal and Around The Sun were awful albums, Up was ok, their major label stuff was decent, and their early stuff and Automatic For The People is wicked awesome. Basically I went back in time with their discography.

Murmer is the best R.E.M album, no contest. And I've not listened to around the sun, but judging by how crappy pretty much everything they've put out in the last two decades (barring a few scattered songs here and there and when-I'm-feeling-like-I'm-in-my-mid-30's enough to listen to Automatic for the People) has been, I don't really care to.
Also, I'm gonna have to say Reckoning is the 2nd best. So. Central Rain is such a pretty song.
I just now realized this post seems rather anti- R.E.M. Let me clarify. I rank Murmer as one of the best albums ever and Chronic Town up there with Watery, domestic as the best EP's ever. Great band, just not one that ever should have left Georgia.

i am a longtime R.E.M. fan thanks to my dad. I used to listen to "losing my religion" over and over in my earlier years...
I don't think murmer is even close to there best album and i think around the sun is a half descent cd. comparing R.E.M. latest to Radioheads latest, i think i would rather listen to Around the sun more than In Rainbows.
Automatic for the People does not have a bad song on it though. I see this as by far their best album.

wow.... whatduffhuck is a fitting name.
I would say the day Bill Berry left R.E.M. they should have packed it in. Before that they were nearly flawless but their career has been in a downward spiral since.

I've only listened to Automatic for the People and Murmur. I grew up listening to Automatic so I like that more.
