Hey all. I decided a while ago I wanted to build a strat in my wood shop. So I started a practice body and talked to another teacher about getting some ash to make it. I didnt plan on making it for a while though. Well when I took apart my epiphone strat copy to make a template, i found out it was plywood. Got pissed and decided it was time to make a new body.

So I got the ash from my teacher, a 2 inc hthick by 10 inch wide, 8 foot board of ash.

This is half of the board. yeah its cracked in several spots, not to worry, 4 pieces of 4 inch wide pieces later we are good. (still gotta cut that though).

Well originally I planned to paint the body. But my one teacher said it would be a shame because of how nice the ash was. So I went and talked to the taecher who gave me the ash, he also gave me a 1/4' thick piece of purple heart and a piece of birdseye.

So I decided to a lam of birsdeye/purple heart/birdseye with ash wings. Its gonna be hot. I'll update with lots of pictures.

just doin the body btw, I plan to reuse my scalloped neck off my strat and add to the headstock, make a fender stock and put some flame maple over it.

My teacher even lent me a book on building guitars which is sweet.

Well I'm quite happy today. Got it all cut out.

Now I have to figure out the contours, radius the edges, touch up the horns, mark all the routings and sand and fill in the gouges. Coming along nicely.
