Ok, if I buy a

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FP10

Will I buy able to plug in 8 different mics,

do the firewire thing to my computer

and with the correct software get 8 different signals?

Or will it push it into 1 stereo channel?

Also, is this standalone, or am I going to need other stuff?

Your gonna be able to have 8 mics, and thats all I can tell you.

So does it compress it all into 1 stereo channel and is it able to be free standing?

assuming u actually have a firewire port on your computer, then using Cubase you'll have 8 seperate tracks.

Yes, when you record, each track will be a separate track in w/e program you decide to use with it. Just make sure that you have a firewire port on your PC and at least 1 gig of ram. You can also find that for a lot cheaper on other websites btw.

Ok, also,

Would I be able to use ACIDPro or SoundForge instead of Cubase?

MisurCanavi

And, is it 6-pin or is it 9-pin firewire?

Or would I be able to use a 6-Pin to 4-Pin adapter?

(I have a 4-pin firewire deal on my computer, and if an adapter wont work, than I will buy a ExpressCard to get a correct port)

It's firewire 400, ... and i think you cn use those programs, but cubase s better imho.

So could I use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855994008

Without killing anything?

abandonthetruth

..You shouldn't need that unless u have Firewire 800, which if I'm not mistaken is less common.

That thing is a 6-Pin firewire deal right?

I have a 4-Pin firewire deal.

So the converter is needed... Right?

... to be honest, .. i didn't think there was a 6 pin 4 pin deal with most standard firewire products. The only way I can compare is i know the product you showed me can plug into my mac. Chippy is the guy to ask.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

the FP10 has 6-pin firewire 400 outputs

so you need one jack on your computer that looks like this:

as far as i'm aware, any form of "Adapter" you run into to go from 6-pin 400 to 4-pin will result in non-functionality.

Damnit, anyone else have definite answers?

Yes. The firepod works with a 6-to-4 pin cable, because the firepod is 400mbps.

soundforge is a sound editing program, not a sound mixing program. cubase or vegas are your PC-friendly alternatives, ProTools is your Mac-Friendly choice.

awesome!

i think that means you need to have the DC adapter with it, don't recall if it comes with or not (i'd assume it does).

the extra 2 pins send power out to the unit, and i thought the old firepods used some of that extra power draw.

Yup, firepod comes with a DC adapter.

That is $100 less, just an option. I've had no problems with mine so far.
