So, alright my Vault has a crack seriously, god damnit I took really good care of this and I thoughtj I had improved my technique, guess I was wrong. But here is my delimma, it is up by the bell and I have had felts, a sleeve and the nut thing was never excessively tight. It is a really small crack and still under the warranty. Is it worth my time to send it to them? Is there any chance that this is a manufactoring issue?

And yes that is an "A" in cymbal not an "E".

Is the crack along the concentric rings of the cymbal or is it along the radius?

come again? It is going from the hole where you mount the cymbal down the bell for like a centimeter.
It is a tiny crackI dont even know how I noticed it, it could have been there forever.

bring it back to where you got it and get them to return it.

Here's today's lesson kiddies.

Always buy your professional expensive cymbals in person.

Agreed, I got it for a Christmas gift last year and it seemed easier just to buy it off the internet. But right now I really regret it especially because I know the people at the drum shop here pretty well and they would probably just deal with it for me.

And yes, this is proof enough for me.
But is it worth my time to ship it off to Sabian?

go to the local GC...they are partners/one is owned by the other. It's worth a shot. If that doesn't work, email sabian.

You would need proof of purchase, to show that its still under warranty, but its likely they will replace it. Yes, its ALWAYS a good idea to return a damaged cymbal under warranty.

Do you have your cymbals high and flat? Damage like this almost always occurs from 1 of 3 things.
1) Hitting flat onto the edge of the cymbal.
2) Worn out/no sleeves.
3) Cymbal too loose on stand and hitting it too hard

Send it back. They'll replace it, no questions asked. It may be a hassle, but it's better than hanging on to a cracked cymbal.

Return it for sure. I bought a warranty from GC with my 16' Vault. I got a 17 instead with the money and i love it and its going strong.

But if I may ask, how long is the Sabian warranty and how do you go about contacting them about replacing your cymbal if its under factory warranty?

I to have a 17' Vault and its hawt. Also un-cracked.

Look on Sabians website un der questions it explains warranties. I have my Order History from Musiciansfriend which has a date on it is that enough? Thank you Damo you are an amazing resource on this board. Im going to see what happens.

So on to my next issue, I bought it on December 10th and I have a show on December 8th what should I do. Should I just send it in now or should I wait play the show with it and hope they accept it a couple days late?

Send it in now.

A couple of days late is still out of warranty - I doubt they'll accept it.

Yeah...I would think being 'too loose' wouldn't be an option, unless you had no wing nut and your cymbal was going to come flying off the stand.. :S

Right now my two crashes don't have wingnuts... but that's because I lost em.

XD

Gotta visit a hardware store this weekend and pick some up.

SEND IT IN STRAIGHT AWAY. The crack will get bigger, and if the Sabian guys notice that the crack is unusually large, they will know that you have seen it but kept playing anyway. Cant really ask for a new cymbal if you were happy holding onto your damaged one.

damo--- can you really crack a cymbal by having it TOO loose?
Absolutely! If the cymbal swings too much, it can be damaged around the sound hole. Picture getting a screwrdiver, putting it through the sound hole and pulling down on the handle. It will 'squash' the soundhole. In cymbal terms, this will mean eventually damaging it. Bare in mind that overextension of the cymbal happens during hitting, so it can be quite a violent jolting process.

Allow all your cymbals to move, but dont allow them too much movement, especially if they are small and you are hitting hard.

you can buy em at hardware stores, how much?

right now my AAX doesn't have a wing nut and i would die if that got cracked.

also would rides with out a wing nut be a little bit better off. i dont crash on it and its low so i only with it with the tip of the stick. (22" AAX stage)

Would it be problematic at all to use no wingnut or top felt on a 20" cymbal? I'm in this situation with my rides, as I don't really see a need for them. There are plastic sleeves on the stands..

For security purposes, yes it is a good idea to put a wingnut on the cymbal. I guess, if you were really cheap and didnt want to spend the 0.23 on one, you are probably fairly safe not using it, provided you dont hit too hard :)

I don't have one on my 22" Ride, but that's because I set it up low and obviously it has a lot of weight.

Millard North Battle of the Bands. And Homemade Sprite(mitch hedberg)

Thanks guys. I think I am gonna send it out early next week. I havent played it since I noticed so hopefully all will go well.

I have a Wuhan, and an old Zildjian Edge, I am thinking I will look at my drum shops used cymbals for the next couple weeks and hope I can find a good deal.

OK, So I am looking at some used cymbals on MusicgoRound.
Any opinion about the stores?
I am looking at :
$124 17" Zildjian K Custom Fast Crash
$89 16" AA Med/Thin Crash
$79 16" Sabian AAX Studio

Any experiance or whatever with the site or these cymbals. I plan to see what the drum shop has and to try all these out. Any other good deal on Musicgoround or ebay would be great.

Ok, the official word is that your damaged cymbal needs to be returned to musiciansfriend (if thats where you bought it from) in order to claim warranty.

There is no way that a local retailer, nor distributor, should, or would take responsibility for a cymbal bought at MF.

My mother spoke with Sabian and they said that I could just send it to them on the 10th and that is what I plan to do. PLay the cymbal for a total of 30 minutes send it in and hope that they send me a new one.
