i've had my premire kit for about 6 months now and the stock tom heads are pretty crappy, they sounded good when they were new but now i've played them so much and being a punk rock and metal player i tend to hit fast and hard and i don't know which tom heads will give me that nice punk rock tone, any thoughts???:chug:

It's all in the tuning and your technique.
FYI,though: http://sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=504159

So you don't want much ring, then?
Go to that link,it's there for that.
And seriously,if you want more of a thud, get some single ply heads, tune them to be open and full, and then put some moon gels on them.
Same sound,more options later on.

im gonna be a dick and say you dont want that sound. get some remo coated emperors.
though these sound really big and boomy when you play on your own, in live unmiced settings they rule, and sound how you want.
works well on my kit, playing the same as you.

I must say that Coated Emperors sound awesome, having them on my set right now.

Try out aqurian preformance IIs if you want a deep sound. They are the best head for that sound, In my own oppinion of course. Coated 2-plys are also a good choice for a deep tunning. If you want a really deep control sound then try out a Coated Performance II.

Or you could try a head that doesn't suck.

Evans makes pretty good heads, in my opinion.

I've had the honors of playing the Performance IIs. Very tubby sounding. Great ONLY if you are close micing the toms, otherwise they sound rubbish as hell.

Dont you play jazz? Then they might not be good heads for you but if the dude's sn is chris alder is god then he odviously likes metal an evans j1 eched will suck to him as would an ambassador.

He plays more than jazz.
You can get the SAME sound with Ambassadors and Emperors by using some external dampening.
Versatilityyyyy.

yeah I totally agree with versatility myself but a metalhead (mostlikey just starting out and is young) is not goign to give two sh-its if he can play jazz, funk and metal all on one kit. he mostlikely wants one sound and thats all he needs.

Tune your kit for playing live and shizz, which means open sounding, and clean, but then dampen it accordingly for home practice.
