I have a few smashing pumpkins covers I need to learn, but I'm in a fix over one of the parts.

First off: Cherub Rock
The intro to me sounds like a slightly accented double stroke roll, so no qualms there.
The final snare 'solo' (4:42) on: double strokes again? A mix of double and singles? How do you play it?

Sorry if this has been covered before, the search function hasn't been working for me.

First off, Great choice for songs to play!
Easily one of my favourite albums.

And about the grooves, The snare 'solo' at the end i believe you'l be fine as an improv.

But if you wanted to learn it note by note it sounds like a single stroke roll with quick doubles before the accented notes.

I could have a go at playing it and showing you if you would like.

Maybe someone else can have a better shot at it.

As you can see, intro is a buzz roll.

Outro is 32nd notes with accents as shown, can be played as doubles or singles I guess.

Just listened to the song, and I'd play those as singles probably.

Yeah you're right, it makes more sense to play them as singles!!!

Just listened to the song, and I'd play those as singles probably.

They are singles, Jimmy Chamberlain made use of the single stroke roll quite often with the Smashing Pumkins by using them to fill entire segueways in the song (ie Quiet, Stand Inside your love, Rocket etc.)

those are 17 stroke rolls at the beginning. i'm sure he's playing them with double strokes (or buzzed slightly). i always do. start with the right hand and end with an accent on the right hand.
