Alot of folks don't know of Angra, but in my opinion, they are one of the best prog-power metal bands ever, throwing in elements of all kinds of music, fusion, funk, Brazillian ethnic, symphonic metal, and many others.

They were formed in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and have a wide span of albums which show the transformation of an awesome band to what many contest to be a better or worse form of said band, though I'd argue with anyone that they are as great as always.

With many lineup changes, the lead guitarist, Kiko Loureiro (voted #1 prog./metal guitarist by Young Guitar magazine), and rhythm guitarist Rafael Bittencourt keep the sound relatively consistant and the material continuously entertaining. They're popular all over South and Latin America, as well as parts of Southeast Asia and moderately well known in the states.

Videos to sample their incredibly cheesy awesome power metal work:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KInnVH3TobY - Carry On
http://youtube.com/watch?v=LHWBx_wUWX4 - Heroes of Sand
http://youtube.com/watch?v=CKL6ID_Dato - The Course of Nature (One of the newest tracks released)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=vX7FiGTQy6g - Rebirth (Acoustic, slower ballady type song)

Kiko Loureiro's solo work (Mainly Instrumental):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ax1kQ07Qlds - Unholy Wars
http://youtube.com/watch?v=H7kqG3_t3_U - Nova Era (Instrumental version of the Angra song)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Svue-nUBJqQ - Acid Rain (Another Angra piece)

Also, this is my first R&M Thread, so please don't hate me if its bad, I just figured I'd share a more obscure band that I feel deserves to be in the spotlight.

If anyone wants actual studio albums and songs, feel free to contact me via MSN or AIM.

I really like Angra, I think Temple of Shadows is a near perfect power metal cd. Any word on when the follow up to Aurora Consurgens is coming out?

I actually have no clue, but I'd agree that Temple of Shadows is their best work yet, and that they don't disappoint in any area on any track!

Nah man they do all that stuff. The singer can be a little bit irritating at times but the music is very strong.

I wouldn't say that there is a funk element imho

I've listened to some Angra from several friends who love them and they are really, really talented and very original but I don't like them at all. Then again I don't like most metal but for people who do like power-metal I think they're a must listen.
