I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Goth, and it's an ok guitar, I mostly played hardcore and metal-ish stuff, so it got the job done. A friend of mine swapped the bridge pickup for a Seymour Duncan, but as I play more and more now, my tastes are definitely changing, and I'm going to be switching a few stuff on the Les Paul. I changed most of the hardware to chrome, like the tuners (Tune-O-Matic), bridge (Gotoh), and knobs. That stuff was all done easily and properly (at least i think), and now comes the hard part. I've now bought and have got to install Seymour Duncan Phat Cats (SPH90) for both bridge and neck, and I read here http://www.berkleemusic.com/discuss/message?message_id=7794177&forum_id=13331
(second post, stewmac) that replacing the wiring and pickups will help my sound a lot.

Should I get a Les Paul wiring kit?
And most importantly, how hard would changing the wiring and pickups be? I don't have much experience with wiring, wiring diagrams, and soldering, but I do have a friend who worked at an electronics assembly line and knows the gist of it, so he could help me out, although he has no knowledge of guitars.
Are there any fundamentals I should know about? Anything I need to absolutely make sure I need to do? Any useful/helpful links?

I'm not that worried about not trashing my guitar, because I got it for pretty cheap, but it would be great if I got everything done properly and made it sound/look better instead of worse.

Thanks.

wiring up pick-ups is not very hard but if you don't feel comfortable you could buy everything and bring it to a good repair shop and get it done for cheap.

As for the wiring kit, you have a les paul right? Then of course you should get the les paul kit.
